Custom made storage box for luggage rack

Hello Together

I know we all love this leather suitcase for the luggage but if you make a road trip sometimes you will leave your baggage in the car and have the possibility to lock it. Searched quite a long time for a solution but didn't find one. Therefore I buy a custom made aluminium box with the dimensions 800x500x250mm and a door lock. Painted it in car colour and mounted it with two wood bars on the luggage rack. Because we have to take the wheelchair from my girlfriend with us I added aluminium profiles on top of the cover. Not so nice to view but it protects the cover and allows me to secure the wheelchair very quickly.

The box cost me about 450€ for the box itself 270€ for the painting and some bucks for the wood and the screws.

Just want to let you know if someone searches for a similar solution

Hello René

A nice, practical solution to a problem I encountered as well.

I decided to make a wooden box, i am new to TM as well and haven't quite got to grips with adding photos to a reply. I will try and post it separately under the heading "my storage solution"

I made the box low so I could see over it in the rear view mirror, I've since decided it's not essential ( I drive a van with a bulkhead most of the time)
I may make a larger version when I find time. I didn't keep exact costs but it was around £200 for materials, a lot of time was involved however.

The wood is Iroko, I fitted 2 locks, a gas strut and LED brake light.
