Once again I was impressed that a Trad shows such a good way of deforming. And happily the driver was only because of observation after the crash in the hospital. Of course a roll over is not recommended with a trad without a rollbar. But this accident shows that the 83-year-old concept is still very impressive. And the driver was pretty fast in the crash.

Not a motorhome Heinz, but an SUV.
There is already another thread about this - from the online Daily Mail - though they called it a vintage car (or some such), where it was actually a recent (2018?) car.
It would seem the driver was looking at his satnav approaching a roundabout where traffic had stopped. When he looked up he was too close and travelling too fast to stop. I say seem as that is the story in the Daily Wail (nickname for that particular newspaper).

Ouch - you have to feel for the guy. 3 things struck me about it. Firstly just how vital it is to keep your "eyes on main beam" and look as far as you can see to hopefully avoid such situations. Secondly the link Heinz has posted is a bit more detailed than the one I got via the Daily mail - showing the car that was hit by the Morgan was a sensible distance from the one in front whilst waiting in a traffic line. Good driving - allowing a gap in front stopped his Audi SUV getting pushed into the car in front.
As Heinz said - the 83 year old design proved very effective in this high speed impact. Horrible to see however. I do feel really sorry for the Morgan driver - I just hope it serves as a warning to all to maintain the vision scans into the horizon and really pay attention to decent observations habits.

It is a better review of the situation.Shows the suv had really stopped !Also the traffic was slowing down in the outside lane !

Very sad - I did put a link to daily Mail but that and another post I wrote about colour blind glasses disappeared in the middle of last night.
Some of the comments on the news sites were not that nice saying old guy should be off the road etc.
I feel sorry for the guy, probably dreamed of owning a Morgan for decades, finally got one and then due to a stupid mistake the car is written off.
Yes the SUV was sensible leaving a nice gap, it certainly got pushed a fair bit from the force. I always leave a gap and have my foot and hand brake on hard as I can push especially after a guy was killed at a roundabout near me because of a similar situation when a car slammed into his car in front pushing it into the roundabout right in front of a bus. Glad I do as a year ago in my wife's Octavia we were waiting at some traffic lights when the same thing happened and without my foot brake on hard and hand brake on chances are we would have ended up in the traffic, I was looking forward so no idea how fast the old BMW was going but I couldn't believe how the force shook the whole car and us about inside, but we didn't get into the intersection.
I have been toying with the idea of a Morgan and other people say why not a MX5, so much cheaper and probably a lot safer. Looking at this the Morgan did pretty well

Sorry for the Morgan driver.
However, he had switch off for quite a few seconds....as he was passing vehicles (on the inside) as they were slowing, yet was still motoring.
He must have been concentrating on "something" quite hard (inside the car) for his peripheral vision not to have pick this up?
A mate has just been "done" for a similar accident and got handed with "driving without due care and attention" this equalled a big big fine - 9 points and 12 month ban......
That road is the M54 in Telford right on the Junction - that is why the traffic had stopped.
Honesty means doing it right, even when no one is looking!
