So it seems we don't like the reported sound (or lack of) produced by the +6, be it modern engineering and damping by the turbo.

Not all straight sixes were quite so quiet, I recall a Vitesse convertible from my past, Jags, TR6s and early Ford Zephyrs to name a few, what's your favourite six?

There are lots of lovely straight sixes out there but as you say when I try and list them I find they are all older models!

RB26DETT Nissan Skyline GTR was wonderful and that was even with turbo/catalyst. It did benefit from an aftermarket exhaust that could fit a full sized hedgehog mind you.
The 3.2/3.3/3.5 out of the older E36 generation of BMW 635CSi was a smooth as butter turbine noise. Not loud or naughty but a lovely cultured sound.

I guess the balance of turbo, catalyst, high HP/Litre and exhaust tuning for back pressure to maintain the catalyst is a serious challenge.
Not to mention the recent changes to drive by noise laws. It is going the same way as Switzerland and we all know how the sidepipes work there quiet

Sorry Bob, how could I forget the Astons.

Thanks Peter, I did as you asked and turned it up - now in trouble with the Boss who's watching the tennis. That's what I remember a lovely growl.

My recently sold AH 3000 had a lovely exhaust note as it had a silencer removed! The TR6 x 2 and the Vitesse I had before those were also a great straight 6 sound. Something i do miss with the plus 4 even though it has the big boys aero back half system.

Had to be a Holden Peter!
Reminded me of my BMW 528 (pre i) when the exhaust got a little flakey.
Where was that road? I missed that on my Oz drive travels!! grin2

Those Triumph saloons with the twin carbs and straight 6 used to sound lovely too, there is a G suffix that a guy in Dartmouth runs around in an estate version a bit of an oily rag but great to see it being used as a work vehicle.

The racing Jags and Astons at Revival sound beautiful at full chat.
