The Chips Away man quitted £180 to blend the paint in and clear coat the panel, including removing the rear light unit and reflector.
MG Cannon want £600 to do essentially the same thing.
Can't decide which to use. The difference is significant.
I'm tempted to use the Chips Away guy and if the job isn't goo get Cannon to re-do it.

We used Chips Away to repair some fairly heavy scratches on the wing of SWMBO’s 911 after a heavy wooden gate swung closed as she was driving through. They did an excellent job and the repair was invisible, they also did it at our location so no hassle of having to take the car, leave it and collect it later. I’d definitely use them again....though I hope I never need to !

You are certainly taking it a lot better than I would have, at least the wing isn't damaged, just your wallet.
Good luck with the repair.

Yes agree

You are taking it well

I’d be loosing it, getting CCTV, police helicopters, SAS, MI5 and vigilante groups involved

I think i've got some brown in a rattle can on a shelf in the shed. Sprayed and coated in clear yacht varnish for £50 Peter.

Seriously i'd give the chips guy a go, or you'll never know if you could have saved £400+.

Don’t think I could take this as calmly and pragmatically as you have - although a discussion with my Carer and counsellor ( Swmbo) would probably have taken me nearer to where you are.

If it was mine, I’d definitely go for the chips away, and if it was not good, then go for the £600 . On one hand you might be £180 out of pocket, on the other you could have £400 to buy petrol with...

Peter,as you are probably aware,Chipsaway is a franchise so only as good as the guy doing the work.

I would check with other customers to make sure you are getting a good 'un innocent

That said, they can and do do some amazing smart repairs.I don't know if it is still the case, but they used to used a fairly thin lacquer (PC52) to blend the repair onto existing lacquer.

This was not a two pack and was prone to dulling over time and could also be affected by e.g. petrol which could dissolve it!

This was a few years back before they went to water based so it may have changed confused2

Most body shops, if doing a part repair, use an agent to 'melt' the edges of the existing lacquer slightly and allow the new , two pack lacquer to blend in.

If it was non metallic, I would tackle it myself as I got a good result on mine when I scraped my wing last year but my attempts on a bit of a scrape on my Metallic grey Beemer were a bit woeful

Got away with it when I returned the car to the leasing company but was never happy with it
