During Morgan's Over America VII my 1994 +8 developed a small drip of oil from the main line to the pressure/one shot oiler switch, repaired with gorilla tape. Seeing as I never use the one shot oiler just grease the suspension I am now going to remove the oiler system. My question is regarding the pressure sender, would like to relocate this from the bulkhead to the oil filter assembly thus removing the feed line and potential problems associated with it. Has anyone done this and what are any potential issues that may arise? Thanks.

coincidence Bruce, i was just looking what parts to remove now that my engine is out due broken clutch. Both feed lines to the pillars were cut in the wheel wells by PO and replaced by grease nipples. Both lines disconnected at the oiler switch and blank plugs. '89 Plus 4 with Rover M16 engine. At the filter housing starts a metal line to the side of the engine with a oil pressure sensor ( not used) and further a plastic hose to the bulkhead switch. From there also a plastic hose to the gauge inside. Being 30 years old now i will remove all this to avoid oil leaks , sure from the plastic hoses….ok, my gauge will not work anymore. But who keeps a eye on this ? we have still the red warning light . ( a sensor direct on the engine block ) . If ever, i can replace it with a electric gauge/sensor, i'm not a fan of having oil pressure up to inside the cabin !

Barry,
My gauge is electric with the wire coming from the bulkhead pressure sensor to the gauge. I am thinking of removing the bulkhead pressure sensor and fixing it directly to where the oil line leaves the oil filter attachment, then running wire into the dash. Agree the less tubes carrying oil the better especially as one was beginning to leak.

I'd appreciate some advice on the correct size and type of brass bolt one should use to do this job? The parts manual for my 65 Plus 4 just shows a brass nut with a compression fitting. Should I expect English or Metric threads? How long? Would a rubber O- ring be a good idea?

These will be Imperial fittings at the age of your car but definitely don't use rubber stick with the brass olives they last the lifetime of the car unlike rubber. I f you take a sample fitting and explain to a plumber he will tell you what you need and maybe even has some, these cars are basic.

I think the blanking plugs for the one shot oiler are a taper fitting. I got a pair from Tim Ayres at New Elms. I suspect most Morgan parts agents could supply blanking plugs. Another maintenance resource is here: Morganatica
