Typical misinformed reaction, they are talking about hybrids, not full eV, which are on the increase.

I have a diesel SUV (as well as the Plus 4) which will be due for replacement in a couple of years. I would love to consider an electric car, and even have space for a charger in my garage, but the more I see about real mileage ranges the less I like the idea.

I have family living 180 miles away with no possible recharging facilities so in a emergency I would need a 360 mile range.

But sods law says that any emergency will happen in winter (so batteries are cold and inefficient), after dark (so headlights are on all the time) and in cold weather (so the cabin heater is on all the time). Has anyone heard of realistic (not "real") mileage ranges under these conditions? I have no idea what the reduction in range might be but I guess it's really important.

I think in your position I'd be looking at a PHEV like a BMW 530e iPerformance with 29 miles of electric-only range (plenty for most short day trips and a 5-hour recharge off a home supply) but with a full 2.0 petrol engine for long distance work.

I have a similar issue with my office being 182 miles from home and I like the idea of an EV to do this journey.

If you look at the Jaguar website for their I-Pace its range is shown as follows

On a full charge it range is 292 miles
If your journey is on the motorway it reduces to 197 miles
If you have heating / AC on it reduces to 190 miles
If the outside temperature is 5C it reduces to 170 miles
If you have 22inch wheels it reduces to 157 miles

From my standpoint this doesn't work, the journey is a right dog at the best of times and I wouldn't want to make it any slower by having to stop and charge.

I agree re the current not-quite-there bit - yet. Clearly you are considering it perhaps it is worth checking on how it could be done ?
If you were to download one of the electric car charging apps or do a google search on your route do you find any commercial charging points at services etc.
If you can charge up for 60 mins 75% of the way up there you would be good for most of the return journey as well if you got one of the longer range cars like a Tesla 3?
I would still look into one of the PHEV models at this point. Merc C300de ?

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
