CJB... gotta say you had me worried as to what I might see when you mentioned endoscope pics (-:
Taking the engine out to replace the alternator, that is Ferrari Dino stuff, even Morgan will hopefully have set things up better than that..?
Was out and under and had a look. MY alt mounting bracket is a three point fixing as suspected. two which can easily be seen from above and to get at the bottom one seems simple enough from underneath the car, I suspect the bolts will be short enough to remove relatively easily, might be best to check what spanners YOU need to complete the job as on my car there are two different sizes holding the bracket the one nearest the wing is of a smaller size and not a good fit on either my imperial or metric spanners... circa 13mm or 1/2" though the other two take a 14mm ring spanner well.
Word of warning be sure to disconnect the battery before trying out the spanner sizes as it looks like it could be all too simple to short between the alternator battery connection and the spanner which you are attaching to the engine which is well EARTHED.
As for getting it out with the bracket attached... Perhaps removing the oil filter may improve manipulation of the assembly.. just dunno.. Best of luck with it CJB, please let us know how you get on..

Thanks, I'm fortunate to have a 4-Post Lift so will have a look from underneath and maybe combine the job with an oil & filter change. It's not busting urgent, in fact it's quietened down since I put everything back together. Maybe more or less belt tension? I might leave it till winter when the car is usually on SORN.

Received this from a friend today which may help you out a bit. I couldn't proffer any help myself as both my Plus 8's were nothing like this arrangement and no information is better than duff information in my book. Thanks to Lorne for going the extra mile on this one . 8 alternator bolt is accessed through a slot Morgan made through the adjacent valence. Other wise, one has to laboriously remove the bracket the alternator is attached to..which has three bolts, two visible from the top and another hidden at the bottom. That is not only fiddly, but dangerous as it leaves one very awkwardly. holding the heavy alternator and this huge bracket, both removing it and reinstalling it. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/GMalternator.html#WATCHPOINT![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/07/24/sl.png)

I find out from GOMOG that there was a slot cut in the inner wing to gain access to this bolt. Doesn't look like the alt mount I have in spares.

CJB, I note that you type of doing an oil change, I have no idea of how many oil changes you have done on your +8, but it was Lorne who told me that if the oil is drained a new filter fitted dry that there can be issues relative to building oil pressure on re-starting the engine, to the extent that some folk have to get in all sorts of messing around stripping the pump filling it with grease and that way hoping to "prime" it and restore circulation and pressure building in the oil galleries...?
Me..? as per Lorne`s suggestion...I drain and refill the oil, start the engine, stop the engine remove the filter, fill the new filter with oil, running a finger of oil round the rubber seal and screw the new filter on, all a bit messy but perhaps better than being unable to restore oil pressure after an oil change..? Has worked fine for me on every oil change.
Mr Button, I suspect there were quite a few different alternator mounts used over the years on the Buick/Rover V8 engine. I looked in the Rover SD1 manual Lorne sent me years ago and the alternator mount it shows is nothing like the one on my Morgan.. But hopefully CJB has enough info to get into the task, if he gets into difficulties it seems there are folk here keen to help out.. (-:
Just thinking in type..

You should always fill a filter before refitting.

Correct, particularly on the V8. Worth reading any of the Land Rover / Range Rover manuals as far as oil changes go. The oil pump on the Rover V8 (never mind what vehicle it is fitted to) is not self priming.

On my 1995 Plus 8 the alternator bracket is a Morgan item, says Morgan on the bracket, so not a SD1 or LR item
