Well worth a go.

I have a spare 9 stud screen which I brought back from Berrybrook for £30 when they replaced my cracked one on the Sport, obviously it's cracked but if anybody can collect it it's yours for what I paid for it.

Surely it is covered by your insurance...get them to source/supply genuine article..As I said with Ledgerwood they have some usually in stock and I'm sure other Dealers are the same.

By the way gents, this was by way of investigative journalism, my current screen is ok but i find it pays to investigate and have a pre-emtive action plan in order to stay mobile

4/4 screen replaced last year. Done by Morgan dealer. £1000 odd. I paid then sent receipt to insurance co. Cheque for amount less excess returned within 2 days. Note it did take the dealer over a month to get a heated screen from the factory. They said for the non heated screens they get them made up around the corner. Insurance co said use morgan dealer not autoglass.

I did replace the windscreen in my 71 4/4 a number of years ago. I had obtained some windscreen rubber stripping from one of the dealers and with the use of a couple of sash clamps and some rubber lube and some pieces of scrap packing wood carefully eased the new screen into position making sure you leave a excess of stripping either side. trim the excess but not too short and then fit more stripping and fit the bottom rail again using the clamps to force the bottom rail on. You have to make sure the screws either side are not too long, label them when taking off. I have heard of others using silicone sealant instead of the rubber stripping but that does not appeal to me. Would be great fun replacing a screen when silicone sealant has been used.

Years ago I replaced the windscreen on my 1986 car by simply getting a local auto glass company to cut me a new one. The whole process was dead easy although I did have to make a new screw block from brass rather than alloy. Reassembling the screen was far easier than the articles on GoMog made it appear, although at the time it didn't raise any suspicions.

Once all back together it worked fine apart from leaking water around the windscreen seal in very wet weather. A few months later I was at Steve Simmonds having a new hood fitted and mentioned the issue to him, he then pointed out that the Morgan windscreen glass is actually a bit thicker than the usual laminated glass that most outfits carry in stock. Fortunately he had a spare screen and fitted that for me and it's been fine ever since.

One the subject of stone chips, don't be afraid of having a go at fixing them yourself. I suffered a stone chip in my windscreen a couple of years ago just before setting out on a trip to France. No time to get a glass repair company to look at it so I grabbed a kit from Halfords and did it myself. a very simple process that worked very well, although the big thing is to do it immediately before any dirt gets in there.

My windscreen (1966) broke at the frame, a bottom corner mitre joint. There are multiple screws, if memory serves I think it’s two to each side, that go into a small angular brass bracket that holds the corner together. I believe on a prior rebuild (before i owned the car) one screw was not replaced, putting all the strain on a solitary screen that eventually gave. Shortcuts!

I had to fashion a new bracket from a piece of brass. Wasn’t too hard but in my rare spare evenings took months. Finally got it all together. While I had it open consensus was to put a fresh piece of glass in there and guidance was to go to an autoglass place and ask for school-bus glass. Wasn’t pricey at all, they cut new glass from the old one, and we put it together with new gaskets I got from Morgan Spares. Now as good as new.

One thing came out of it- took off the side glasses that came with the car. Did not replace. Like it better now, I do. Certainly no windier/noisier than when they were on. IMO a cleaner look. Beautiful either way though.

I had to do my own on the old '49 F Super as you obviously can't get them anymore, It's lasted 5 years but unfortunately it's got a small hairline crack developing again, which is, I suspect due to the general body flex twisting the 'screen frame, the original frame channel is very slender & I could only get 4.4mm laminated glass to just squeeze in with a thin rubber gasket
