Newish Roadster with the Quaife? steering rack common to all Classics now. It was Cain at Wolf Performance that pointed out there seemed to be some wetness on mine after 6500 miles from new. 700 miles later whilst fitting new valance it seems to have got worse.





Unfortunately pictures don't tell the full story but the leak seems to be from the inner of each otherwise intact gaiters leaving them both wet and a clear yellow liquid presumably from grease within is gathering on the metal body between. The gaiters are secured with cable ties. Is this the only means of retaining lubricant?

Took car into KH today and George suggested this was unusual at best and is hoping to secure a new rack under warranty. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this issue.

Having had chance to consider the problem further, it seems the "oil" is just grease that has been liquified with the summer heat. The problem may only require the cable ties securing gaiters replacing with proper hose clips. Has anyone done this?

Richard, my 3.7 had exactly the same issue

I assumed it was excess that had just got on the outside as the OE manufacturer assembled it, wiped it off a few times, but it kept re-appearing, no apparent leak though

To save a dealer visit I replaced the clips myself, but the issue came back, the rubber was always 'wet' in appearance

In the end as the Silver Arrow had to attend the MMC for a little warranty tweak, they kindly sorted it on the same visit (new bellows)

Thanks Jon. Was going to suggest to KH they just replaced cable ties with hose clips but in the light of your experience maybe bellows as well.

Having seen how the factory chassis shop receive parts in a big wheeled 'trug' for each car all just piled in, I'm suspicious that it would be easy to damage the bellows even before assembly onto a car

Anybody replaced a split gaitor to the current rack ? (as shown in photos)

I have a split one and wondered what the procedure was? Looks quite involved - any body tackled this or is it best left to a Morgan workshop?

Heinz and I have just had this conversation, see the Steering Gaiters thread further down. Try a Universal gaiter, I bought a pair from a local Autospares place, but Car Builder Solutions also sell singly. The non column side which I changed on mine was relatively easy, but the side with the steering column on looks a little more involved.
