SER: The bonnet straps are 'original'... despite the somewhat damaged paint, I believe the previous owner kept the car 'indoors' a lot so the leather and 'wool' are both in excellent shape.

Geordie: Yes, certainly. Azuri Car Care. Graham is a perfectionist and a bloody nice bloke too. They do lots of work on new Mclarens/Lambo's/Porsches etc!

The finished result is indeed stunning, but detailing is still there for me to do... engine bay etc etc!

The final ceramic coating is done once the paint correction etc has been completed... it has a 'design life' of about 5 years in 'normal' use. So I am hoping a pampered life will see it lasting a lot longer!

Before going to Silverstone Classic I decided the car was overdue a good clean. I washed, clayed then machine polished with Meguiars compound and my DAS Pro polisher. Just a light polish, nothing more. I waxed with Autoglym HD wax. On arriving at our rendezvous with others comments were made about the car looking good. I am not into concours shenanigans but keep the car decent. The only time I cringe is when our highways dept throw chippings down as an interim repair. GRRR. Their “sweep up after a few days is rubbish).
I am tempted to try the DIY ceramics available though. Maybe next year at annual clean up time.
In between I use Autofinesse Triple to top up.

That looks very good, Peter! I'm not necessarily a fan of too much paint gloss, I would have to see that in real but another point is positive to my needs. The intensity of the color pigments looks very convincing on your car. Since my color, graphite grey, is rather defensive, but in some moments, when the light is right, can be very impressive, I would go this way. May I ask what this whole treatment cost?

Another point, our family transporter, an E class station wagon from 2010 has ceramic coat as factory standard... To this day, after each wash, it looks as if it has just been freshly waxed.
That's why I'm convinced of ceramic coat. Hopefully a later treatment by a third party will be as good as our Mercedes paint from the original production. Then I would consider it immediately for my 4/4. Is ceramic paint flexible enough to take all the vibrations and movements of the thin Morgan aluminum parts with it, such as the bonnet?

Before applying the ceramic coating, it's all the time consuming work that was done to clean and then correct the paintwork.

Some deep washing that removes not only all the dirt etc, but also all the old 'layers' of wax etc. Then clay bars, a polish that was 'graded' from 'coarse to fine'. The ceramic coating simply goes over the top to protect what has been done underneath!

Costs depend on who/where/what/when etc etc! Best give a few places a call as I found the quotes were quite varied... from £800 - £2,100. A lot of money but for me worth it as all the swirls and scratches were really annoying me and I did not want 'another' detailer with a 'mop' having a go... which then removes even more 'clear coat' over the colour!

IF I was ever to buy a new Morgan, I would have this done before the car even hit the road. My car has been sat next door to some brand new Morgans and the difference in depth and shine is really noticeable. If you like that kind of thing!

I have no interest in keeping My Morgans shiny and clean. I drove to Southern Cal for MOGWEST. I had driven My +8 Bitsa. Not only was it filthy it also was not a Morgan assembled by MMC. I did not enter it in the Concourse for all to see. The Concourse was full of very presentable Morgans as well as one Vintage Trike that had 4 wheels. I enjoyed looking at Morgans that their Owners had put a heck of a lot of time and money to make them beautiful and representative of the Morgan Marque. Of course I won the Long Distance Award. I always do or at least come in 2nd. Not sure what the Long Distance Award signifies other than I have a "Leather Butt".

There is a Company in Shrewsbury that "details and applies ceramic coats etc."

When passing last time I called in - a very impressive facility: interestingly - next door - is a Super Car Club (where you pay to use a Super Car - but never own it - and have the keys for a few weekend etc.). In the Detailers was a brand new McLaren (520 i think) from this "club" with just delivery miles - it was being detailed and then ceramic coated!!

I thought that if they can improve brand new McLaren paint.....now that IS impressive.

Interesting about McLaren paint...

The guys who did my Morgan had 2 new McLaren's in their facility at the same time... one new, one after their work. They showed me the paint under their 'special' lights and I was amazed how 'imperfect' it was straight from the factory! The detailed car was however on another level.

They also commented how 'soft' the paint was on my Morgan (and others they had seen) and they had to be very careful with getting the correction done so as to not go too far into the 'clear coat'.. Apparently metallic paint finishes are typically much 'harder' as well, even from the same manufacturer with Porsche metallics being pretty well 'bombproof'

It's quite a 'science' I gather to get this process right...
