The weather was nice y/day so I suggested we go to Holy Island . It was early last year the last time we walked around the Island .
After a good wander its back to the car for food a bit more walking and a look at our watches and decided to head home as it was getting near 4pm
Pulled up against the railway crossing ( only way back ) . Spotted both side electric gates gates closed and red lights flashing along with 3 cars behind us said June . Then woosh a 125 train shot past heading South at 125mph .
The lights stopped flashing turned to green and the gates started to open , no one coming over , must be time of day as the sea turns to cover the road over to the Island . I started over the track and the lights instantly changed from green to red along with the gates both sides starting to close .June told me later the three cars behind me hit reverse and shot back onto the road from the line as fast as they could .
I did not have time to think it took me back to the time when I loved a rally , my foot hit the pedal with no thought but to get out and off the line at any cost . It hit the sump cover with a wack as I flew over the top of it and was out before the gate got any lower . Then the 125 train went past at full speed 125mph . No time to gulp . But what a close miss faulty lights and gates . I drove to Bamburgh called the AA to look at the sump who put plastic strips on it , just returned from garage AND HAS TO GO BACK TOMORROW . Its taking a while to sink in just how close . We have phoned the rail company and the phone has never stopped . As its not that long ago the same thing happened so they are taking this in deeply . Thank goodness it was not elderly people or a semi disabled person driving . I said to June I think after that I will not be to keen to go again .
ANYONE ELSE GOING WATCH IT LIKE A HAWK

Glad both ok but sounds as if it was the quick reactions that saved the day. Are there cameras on site so Network Rail can see how bad it was?

JEEZ, you were soooo lucky. Great that you reported the situation, and hopefully Network Rail have video facilities at the crossing to assist them in resolving the issue.... Scary stuff indeed.

I hope they are prepared to cover the cost of your sump --- it could have been a lot worse - as said - buy a lottery ticket - you two have been blessed!

Thank you lads I am still kicking . Not sure if any camera etc did not have time to look and SMILE . But its out in the sticks and I can not recall seeing one in the past . As for the sump it was the cover and a few other plastic parts that got damaged as I snapped a few plastic screws fasteners and other bits that once held things together ITS ONLY A CAR .
Now this may make you smile .My Solicitor phoned last night he has a case against a chap with my surname and wanted to know if I was a relation .Thank goodness he has a christian name I have never heard of BUT OUR SURNAME . Could be a son of a relation , but what makes me grin is just along the road is a chap from Aberdeen with our name , could be his son . But not our problem As for the lotto ticket I bought one last week for tonight not a hope in hell more chance of being hit be a 125 train . Now stop laughing as in Jan the council got 10.6m to build a new rail station and the reason is so we can have a 125 going past and stopping . Lets hope they have better bloody lights fitted along with the gates a few hundred yards away for the farmer to get back and forth onto his farm. I am now less than 2 weeks to Daughters wedding and she is still giving me hell , I had I SAID "HAD" 2 skin tags on my neck left side and 3 on the right side I was sent to my Dr this m/ing to get them removed and feel like a pin cushion can anyone tell me how the hell can you see them under my shirt , thank Goodness I am Jewish or I may have lost that also Tried all the stuff on and look like something in a shop window . Once again thank you for your thoughts I try not to thing what could have been

I have to say I can’t help with the latter part of your posting but for some crim to have the same surname (ie “TheLad”) is pretty unusual so I’m not surprised the solicitor wanted to check with you!!!!
