Since last summer I drive a Roadster Sport. So far everything is good. The only issue is a very boomy sound from the exhaust system - roof up or down. Between 2K and 3K rpm it is beating my head in a way it could burst. After warming up (ca. 1 hour drive) and with a little bit more throttle (e.g. on a gentle climb) it becomes even worser. I am not a mimosa (so far) and I know what a Morgan is about. This is my third one. Before, I drove a Roadster MK1 and a MK2 with the spare wheel on the back. Both never delivered this boomy sound in this important cruising rev band area. My garage says, the exhaust system has not been altered at all, at least since MK2. And they assume that the boomy sound could be caused by the closed and therefore more resonating Roadster Sport´s back.
On the other hand I can remember a substitutional MK1 I drove in 2005 during a repair of my car. That car was fitted with a sport exhaust systmen and it was similar boomy. This experience lets me think about, that the effects of the closed back must not be the (only) reason for this kind of sound.
Anyone who has same experiences regarding the Roadster Sport exhaust?
Is it really the same exhaust system as Mk2? Could it be the exhaust mounting? (by view everything is ok, but perhaps caused by too hard rubbers or something else). I would appreciate it very much if someone can help or give a recommendation. It is so hard, that I even would invest in a different exhaust system.
Regards, Heinz

I have no experience of the Roadster Sport exhaust, but when I bought my Series 1 Roadster, it was fitted with a sports exhaust which had much shorter main boxes and no baffles in the rear boxes. On the drive home it drove me mad with a booming resonance between 2500rpm and 3000rpm. The car came with the standard system and the following day I refitted this. The contrast was amazing, and I'm much happier. I suspect that even if the system looks unchanged, the internal baffles have been reduced - both to release power and to give a sporty note. But not everybody wants a loud exhaust.

Don't Librands sell a tailpipe which is suppose to take the edge off the exhaust note...might be worth trying.

I have tried different tail pipes with no success. They only "tune" the brightness of sound but they will not alter the amount of booming noise inside the car. I guess/hope, the issue is caused by the main boxes. I agree with the experiences Dave has described regarding the change back to the standard MK1 exhaust.
Anyone who drives a Roadster Sport with similar problems (or solutions)?
What I will try is to mount old standard main boxes. Does anyone know if the Roadster Sport main boxes are different from the traditional current car or different from Mk2?

The easiest way to find out would be to ring the factory and ask for Mark Baldwin.

Hi Heinz, Did you get any further with the noise issue? I asked our dealer, he could not say for sure if anything had changed between the Mark II and the Mark-III/Sport. (apart from the tailpipe) He did find in the factory partsbook for main silencer (under the wing) a normal- and a sports silencer. Maybe your R-sport has this "sport" silencer? Or is it possible the resonance comes from the intake? I believe that has changed also with the MarkIII? Please let us know what you find. JJW

Heinz, I have a 2010MY Roadster Sport with standard factory exhaust (described as 'Slash Exhaust' - which I believe just describes the tail pipes). It is not at all booming at any point through the rev range and I have no resonance from the system that I can detect. Sorry I cannot help further, but yours does sound unusual.
