At 42.850 GBP Oakmere has still a red basically but very nice chosen Sports red 4/4 which I immediately fell in love with if I didn't had a 4/4 and needed an RHD. So graceful and so unpretentious. Just to my taste with the silver painted wheels and, a detail which I like a lot, the spare wheel no matter how simple she otherwise is equipped. (IMHO the spare wheel looks best with a 4/4). A nice steering wheel can be added later or even overrider bumpers.

So is this the very last not overdone equipped 4/4 like almost new, you can buy in the UK?

Whilst the CX Chassis is the way forward for Morgan there is no imminent need for the trads to go as they are protected both by Low Volume Exemption and that regulations are not (normally) inflicted on current production models. When it stops it will be because of lack of profit - although regs may be given as the reason i.e. the Defender. (All IMHO of course).

I agree that the situation may not change this year or maybe not in the next few years due to the low volume exemption, and I also agree that profitability is the issue especially with the change of ownership.

The new owners of Morgan however will be looking for a return on their investment and if they are limited to 800 or so cars a year to comply with low volume exemption, the options are to build more expensive cars with higher profit margins such as the new Plus 6 or to build more cars.............. and that could well mean exceeding the low volume exemptions.

Interestingly we have been told the 4/4 has ceased production because of regulations on the Sigma engine, but over the years there have been many engines fitted to the 4/4 without the need to stop production. Could the real reason be that the 4/4 is the cheapest and least profitable Morgan or is there a new engine in waiting in the wings?

A very good point RobCol, Caterham, who are in a similar situation, managed to sell all of there Suzuki 3 cylinder engined cars almost immediately so couldn't Morgan do the same with the 4/4?
What of the Plus 4? I understand that the current GDI engine is now only used in a very few countries so is that for the chop as well?

Yes, totally different cars!

I think turning 60 had me feeling less 'boy racer' and more 'Gentlemanly'!

I had a look at 4/4 in Germany last year. As it would be clear the production of the 4/4 runs out the german dealers ( also,a second one) grow up the spec to "last edition" and the price for about 5000,- EURs. For cars they had in stock for more than three month. So they had ordered a last edition at a time there was no end of the production in sight!

That was the time I think: thanks, you' re out...

And thanks to BHM for a great customer service in brand new bespoked +4

That would be a 4/3 surely! innocent Imagine the extra luggage space under the bonnet though!

I gather that the former marketing Bloke - mr De Roos told the dealers at a dealer meeting that a deal had been done with a supplier for a new range of engines at lower CO2 levels to start in 2019. So — is the Plus Six the start of a range of BMW engines??

I was speaking to one of Morgan’s suppliers today mentioning I was likely to be buying a new plus 4 GDI in around a years and he thought Morgan may not be making them by then. He said they already had cars on the road testing the replacement for the 4/4 and the plus 4. No more details were provided. I guess we will hear soon enough maybe Geneva next year?
