Surely you can disable this system if necessary by putting some sticky tape over the camea lens. Or maybe grease.

I'm sure you can go into the settings on the cars display and disable the autonomous braking, the warning sensor still works but the car won't?shouldn't brake, I have done this on both my cars for that reason, I don't want the car to brake for no reason, then I wonder, will this have any insurance repercussions should I have an accident and didn't brake quick enough?
Modern cars, they'll be taking over from us drivers soon!

The EU is going to make this mandatory on new cars I understand. Whether or not we remain in EU the UK will have to comply or risk being unable to sell cars to Europe. It should be noted that this is still just a proposal and would have to be approved by the MEPs. I suspect, however, that it is likely to happen. I also suspect that it will have the effect of limiting the sales of super powerful cars in Europe. Already it makes little sense to have a car that can break the speed limit in less than 3 seconds after the traffic light turns green.

And people wonder why I hate modern cars?????? Me too Graham , but I fear that if we want to keep driving in overcrowded cities we are going to be forced to buy them , or not be allowed to drive our "elderly" "crude" vehicles with out all these electronic gizmos.

An out of town storage facility Andy. Get there by autonomous (electric?) taxi. Take real car out for a drive. Return is the opposite of outward journey

They are going to have to change the signage policy in Italy. They put 30 km/h signs everywhere where there is roadside contraction work, a few potholes, roadworks etc. These signs are often not removed when work is completed. Other than that there are areas where a 50 km/h limit is so obviously ridiculous that nobody takes any notice. I think if everyone was forced to obey the speed limits that Italy would grind to a halt.
PS. I wonder how Morgan would incorporate all that stuff in even the new CX platform cars?

The technology relies on programmers anticipating all possible future circumstances and hopefully the subsequent tests pick up any errors before it is put onto customers cars. However it seems to me that there is still effectively a second driver with partial control; unfortunately they are not in the car to share the consequences.

Hannes, it does seem that it is possible if not entirely probable that development processes in the design of digital control systems that there may be room for ...err...error..? To identify those processes as logic, seems to defy my kind of logic at times. I have read of a similar situation for folk approaching motorway toll barriers, much to the concern of others following close behind... hmm..! As for the wonders of modern technology I guess we/you have to be grateful that none of us were on the aircraft flight from South America to France that was flown into the ocean by it`s pilots, killing all on board as the result of a combination of interface issues between the human and computing systems, whereby icing on a sensor created too many alarms for the pilots to make sense of to the extent they eventually ignored all alarms.... The situation initiated by some ice build up on a sensor. Seems the humans reached mental overload to the extent they may not have realised that the trainee co pilot was in the captains chair, thus over riding the flight inputs of the more experienced co-pilot who was in the co-pilots chair and who thought he had taken over control..... When the senior pilot appeared on the scene it was all to late for a recovery process... sigh! Can things get worse... hmm.. Design and build an aircraft which is inherrantly unstable in flight and beyond human capability to control through manual processes, were they available thus it`s ability to fly is entirely computer controlled...where the human is there, but not entirely necessary, perhaps just that humans currently prefer to think pilots should be human..? I think it was fighter aircraft design was such as I have suggested... however it seems passenger aircraft are not too far behind, though with development issues causing other brand new aircraft to fall out of the sky as the result of the pilots being deprived of control in what might seem a rather fundamental flight control situation.....!!! All of which reminds me of the cartoon whereby a chap in overalls is standing at a stores counter, pointing to something he wants that is sitting on a shelf just out of his reach, while the store-man`s gaze is fixed computer screen and saying "we have no stock".... the cartoon entitled "The computer says NO" And you might wonder why I drive a Morgan minus an ECU and chose the TM i.d. of Luddite...

When I ordered my Audi a crash sensor was not required by EU standards so I skipped several options to avoid the sensor (which means to be online and trackable) When I received the car the garage guy proudly told me that all the settings I had avoided to order were on bord and free for 3 month use.(and could be prolonged for a fee).
