[quote=Boshly][quote=Aeroman][quote=Boshly] I suppose that if it does go to the Index, everyone can find their own interpretation of a 'cheap convertible supercar' - every one's a winner! Peace... Does a 2CV Citroen qualify?

I had a Lotus Elan big valve with four seats and I have an idea that there are some convertibles out there - maybe Spyder did them -they still seem reasonably priced. It was lovely but I had an MGB roadster at the same time , and a Renault 4 van and lived in a derelict timber framed house in Wales AND WAS MAD. Meabh.

I may be arriving a little late to the discussion - but I bought my first car (1966 MGB) before going off to college/university this past Fall and I'm absolutely in love with it. As a college kid it's about as cheap a car as any of my friends Honda Civic's or Toyota Corolla's (American market econoboxes). I've had none of the reliability issues people rant about...but that's also because I'm a firm believer in getting what you put into a car, and how you take care of it. I spent a half day going through the wiring and getting it sorted, but it runs like a top and is a dream to drive every day of the week.
I figure if the majority of guys here own Mog's - just drive them!

Being a Triumph fan, as well as Morgan of course, I dont think you can beat a Spitire, cheap to run, insure and maintain. Go for Mk3 or 1500 with overdrive ie 6 speed box. Easy to drive comfortable and plenty of room for 6 foot plus. Plus a turning circle better than a London taxi
GT6 and Vitesse good cars but too front heavy.
TR's, never owned one but TR5 would be favourite but more expensive than a Morgan.
Stags, all engine problems cured by now, original Triumph V8s more expensive than converted rover V8s.
MGC avoid like the plague, far too front heavy and expensive.
MGB over rated and expensive
Midget you have to be one to drive one!
Modern jap *rap, well obviously MX5 true successor to Spitfire in my opinion, but no-one has mentioned the Honda S2000 again never driven one but always wanted to.

Not true. I've had two ( one a 1098 cc and the other a 1275). When I had the first one I was a 6' 3", 15 stone rugby playing student and when I had the second I was in my forties, still 6'3" and about 16.5 stone. Ok, roomy, they ain't but it is do-able and I'd certainly rather have one than a 1500 Spitfire which, along with the similarly- engined Midget, must be the 'bin- clearer' to end 'em all. Still, as lots of people have said- it's an individual choice and all the better for that G

Probably not a debate actually. I was ( am) a big fan of the Spit in its original form ( I can even live with a two piece prop shaft and the biggest negative camber ever set uo on a car!) even more so the GT6 The Spit was certainly less basic than the small BMC sports range. Both cars lost it for me when they went to 1500cc and that dreadful gearbox. I think that is the really sad part- the way BLMH did virtually no R &D, had quality control from hell and just at sat back on their *rses and let it all slip away. The MX5 issue accentuates it. Whatever one says about it,it must surely be the sports car the British companies ought to have built. What did we get instead? The TR7. Nuff said regards, G

Had a Spitfire 1500 once. Didn't keep it long - too much trouble. Used to have to take my boots off to drive a pal's 1500 Midget otherwise my knees would jam under the steering wheel...
BGT V8 was much nicer than the C...
