Hello,
I need to replace my oil pressure sender but I'm having a tough time locating one form Morgan parts dealers.
Is is there a generic sender I can use that I can just buy from Ebay or something?
It is connected to a 7 bar Smiths gauge
Thanks

I can't help you where to buy this sensor. But a word of warning. Here was a thread about this hexagonal connector made of non-ferrous metal that connects the oil pressure sensor with the engine on the right in your photo. i believe it is an adapter from metric threads to imperial threads. It is very vulnerable and often breaks just because you look at it. More so when you have to move it and change the sensor. For this reason, it would perhaps be advisable to replace this hexagonal copper adapter as well.

Are you sure the sensor is broken? Sometimes it is sufficient to clean the electrical contact and to go with your fingers along the cable. My one was pressed to hard with a cable tie where it joints the harness and after moving the cable a bit back and forth the gauge worked again.
BTW a "true" value I have never read on my oil pressure gauge. For years it was max. 1,5 bar and since 5 months it shows 3 to 5 bar. Both is BS TBH. The engine runs and I have a look at the oil level from time to time.

You can also check if your gauge is working fine but perhaps you are aware of this check anyway: If you pull off the electrical contact on the sensor and the ignition is on, the dial gauge should fully deflect to the highest oil pressure (Please don't stone me if I remember it wrong).

Caerbont make Smiths instruments and will almost certainly have one of these. Ian John is the man to speak to. Alternatively, Holden Vintage and Classic.

Try uncle Melvyn (Rutter). Changed the sender on my plus 4 which looks the same - beware though they’re not cheap so be sure it’s the right one before you invest

Speak to Caerbont, they took over Smiths instruments and manufacture/supply the instruments. I've always had great service from them , you'll get a new correct sender within a couple of weeks. By the way the senders are a very simple and cheap old tech construction and can never be accurate enough for Caerbont to declare/guarantee any accuracy figures, but it is an indication.

P.S. i've carried out a calibration check on my oil pressure indicator (the usual morgan 3 in 1 arrangement) and its reasonably accurate, however over the range my new transmitter is approx 1.0 bar high at 5 bar engine oil pressure, it showing over 6.0 bar on the gauge.

Yes the gauge is working and I have cleaned the contact.... point taken for the adapter, I will take care!

Thank you for your help!

I got an interesting response from Neil Meakin at Caerbont:

".... the sender you have is a 10bar sender and will make the oil pressure read artificially low. This is an issue we have raised with Morgan on more than one occasion but, for their own reasons, they wish to maintain the incompatibility."

This was precisely my problem, oil pressure reading too low! I went on to order the correct 7 bar sender.

I just thought it might be of interest.
