News about the failure of Thomas Cook today arrived in my in-box along with this link, from a friend in Canada.

As Giles said in the Thomas Cook thread, there is a sickness at the top of major companies, with senior directors only concerned about their bonuses.
Boeing bought McDonald Douglas, a sick and failing company. The management of that company managed to infect Boeing with the same illness: now we have Boeing looking over a cliff: the 737MAX is fundamentally unsafe. I doubt it can ever be made sufficiently safe for the FAA to re-certify it. The only winner here is Airbus, their 320neo will clean up this sector. How is it that Airbus can develop a new aircraft properly, and Boeing failed? Corporate structure and management style, I believe.

Strange, the Americans have always been so good at this mass production thing yet Airbus, which is the airplane version of a kit car, do a brilliant job. I wonder if Britain will still be building the wings post Brexit???

The 737Max was built and sold on the fact that pilots would not have to be retrained to fly it as it was basically a 737 with bigger engines, not requiring to retrain would save a lot of money as it is expensive to do. Unfortunately sticking on two big engines which have to be further forward on the wing to give take off and landing clearance has not given good flying characteristics and makes the plane want to fly nose up.

Forget the voice of the customer at your peril.

Brexit alone isnt the issue. There is no industrial sense in some Airbus wings being built in the UK and then shipped to France - the UK is no longer a partner in Airbus so what do the French gain?

No problem we can go it alone with all-British designs and sell them to our new trading partners.
