What is the consensus on running board tread rubbers? To have or not to have? I know the modern look is not to have them and this always look great. But there is a lot of acreage on the wider winged Roadster and the treads break that up a little. I’m also having a traditional stud roof and I can’t help thinking that wing treads go with that look.

I had wing treads on my last car but with Defendall paint protection film added for protection I found the wings became quite tatty and scuffed around the rubber treads which looked worse. Replacing the film is quite expensive. I wonder if it’s worth dispensing with Defendall on the wings altogether - perhaps it would be easier and even cheaper to just touch the wings up every couple of years.

Advice and views appreciated.

Reason to have them - they protect the running boards from damage from erant kids that jump on them , yes they will do this and damage the paint , the rubber stops this .

Think you have virtually answered your own question. I have tread rubbers but would not go for them again.
1. When washing the car, they tend to trap pools of water
2, I know of several people who have suffered corrosion bubbling up under the rubbers due to rusting fixing bolts.
3. They trap polish residue
4. People seem to think it’s ok to plonk their foot on them to take pics when your back is turned.

I agree. I opted not to have them on my current Morgan for these reasons.

Quite the opposite IMHO. Tread rubbers give the impression they are for standing on!

An alternative fixing method to avoid the holes and possible corrosion issues arising, is to use double sided adhesive tape to fix the rubbers..?

I have one tread rubber on my narrow 4/4 and although they do pool water etc. when cleaning it`s not too much trouble to sluice it off - but they are a physical reminder to lift feet up when getting in and out - also I think they look good. I would have it done if getting another Mog.

I see your point ! Its just that the kid in question jumped up and down on the running boards just after I bought the Mog , his mother stood idly by and then the granny said - ' you naughty boy cedric ' !
