Advice requested for Germany Romantic Road, that my son and I want to drive in May 2020. We are not particularly interested in the tourist hot spots, but prefer to see the true Germany, even along the Romanic Road. All advice willingly received. Steve

We drove it a few years ago using Scenic & Continental. There are a number of very picturesque towns along the route. Rottenburg Ob der Tauber is well worth an overnight - plenty to see and some interesting history. The main thing is - don’t expect a picturesque road - parts of it are busy dual carriageway filled with heavy goods vehicles.
You say you aren’t interested in the tourist hot spots - its still worth seeing Neuschwanstein when you get to the southern end - it really is spectacular. There are 2 other castles in the area (Hoenschwangau is reached from the same car park as Neuschwanstein) - all are busy. Linderhof is the smallest and a few miles away from Neuschwanstein but has some lovely grounds. If you decide to give any of them a go, pre-book tickets to avoid the queues. The car park attendant for Neuschwanstein has a soft spot for Morgans and will direct you to a spot he can keep an eye on.
A scenic route back through the Black Forest is lovely and you can divert a little to spend a day at the Schlumpf Museum.

Hmm...
I had to look where the "Romantic Road" in Germany is.
Last time I was in that area I was disappointed because of the many buses and crowdet streets and villages.
No wonder if the city signs are in German and Japanese...
If you want to see nice german castles and landscapes there are a lot other areas...
Only my personal opinion

Be aware that the Schlumpf Museum is not located in Germany but France - the museum is worth a visit! https://www.citedelautomobile.com

Ah. " Erica wears thermals" what a great name for a band. Thank JTL for the offer, might take you up on that. Got the idea for the route from Henry Cole's Great Motorcycle Rides. Will report back when I have re-watched the DVDs. Steve make your way to the Black Forest if you want I can dig out some books for you . Steve we went over to there wedding arrived and said 'im off for a walk . She told me I would get lost . Not a hope in hell went off in the woods etc and found my way back easy . By tea time Hans arrived . I was off again out he shot "get into my car he went past M. BENZ factory . Came to a tiny village with a sex shop . I said what the hell is that for, you get married in the m/ing . He said its the door next to it , its for a drink . Not a girl in site so after a while ( a very short one ) I said where are the women . He pointed to a door and I walked to it opened it and wall to wall crumpet "YAHOO " I shouted to Hans come on we can have a great night . The next bit hurts ,he just wanted to drink I AM TEA TOTAL ALMOST . Not that night I was ill all those stunning women on the dance floor and only me wanting to enjoy them ALL . . I walked out to his car and bang the beer had hit me they loaded me into his car NO NOT THE WOMEN .I was put against the wall and someone put me to bed . Awoke bright and early the next m/ing , by the help of a who knows who dressed and off . The priest was the brides uncle and for some reason the wedding was a bit late , wonder who caused that . . They have an odd way of doing things . The blokes grab the bride and shoot off the groom has no idea whats going on . So the bride is taken to every pub in the area they drink the pub dry and off to another till she is found . The groom has to pay for the booze in all the pubs used . I stayed with June and the guests we knew so watch the beer it may taste easy going down like water but it has a strong kick.
