I was just remarking this morning as I came round a corner onto a nice piece of straight road in the country side, that when you put your foot down in second at 3.5k revs the GDI +4 really shifts.... Just thought I'd share that... G

So is the 4/4 with the Sigma, it just loves high revs in 2,3 and 4 and continues in 5

The standard GDI is not bad -- but you should try the Ecoboost turbo "Possum" (2014 Plus 4 GDI). 260 bhp very light and oodles of torque. Wheelspin in third gear in the dry at Prescott TOTH. Just made a Plus Eight driver rather sad when it walked away from him into the distance. Pip pip.

My 2002 Plus8 comes alive at 3000rpm. Standard spec tune, no remap. There is a definite feeling of..hold on, here we go! When I moved from the 4/4 to the Rover Plus8 I became lazy as it felt like an automatic due to the torque. I then started to explore the response and learn the new gear selection. Griffo...sounds like an awesome engine spec.. good posts on the upgrade too.

I think it is just GREAT that you can enjoy aspects of your Morgan any which way you can (-: I came to Morgan ownership searching for other than outright performance I was looking for far MORE than that, and strange as it might seem at a lesser speed then that of my previous recreational vehicle of choice, which was a BMW R850R m/cycle. A pal was a Honda dealer thus I had access to try out the VFR of the time which I determined was a licence shredder disguise, for to arrive at that point in the rev range where it sounded fantastic was HOW MANY MPH..!!!! The Beemer was a whole different package that could corner as well as if not better than many of the bikes I met on the road...without encouraging me to get involved in too many attempts at re-acting my yoof.. (-: Prior to that I had circa 10 years of involvement with 911s, I was even fortunate enough to be the first private individual in the UK to test drive the then new 993 which was launched at Cameron House Hotel on the shores of Loch Lomond, and at the time when compared to my then 10 year old 911 It again was quieter, smoother more sophisticated, more powerful and with improved road holding and low down grunt than my old car... in effect another potential licence shredder..Hmm..? I held on to my old 911 for a while after that in that it provided more feed back to me than did the 993. Winter m/cycling got the better of my knees and on following a Vintage Bentley driven enthusiastically, I arrived at Morgan ownership for fun mileage which kept my knees reasonably warm and also provided a RAW enough motoring experience while at or around 60mph on interesting and twisting roads.... Add to that the rumble of the V8 that can growl too on occasion, and the sounds department was well catered for too..With perhaps 150HP available on vintage suspension, my old +8 can provide more than enough excitement for an old duffer such as I... As for 911s..? I think they may now be pumping out circa 400hp or more and with the latest in on board digitisation required keep it on the Tarmac... NOT what I am looking for in a recreational vehicle... Evolution is interesting is it not..? For as long as I can get in and out of it I guess I will stick with my non digital purely manually operated and controlled +8 , each to their own..?

I share your views: motoring evolution shows clearly that more is, in the real world, less. Tarka is more than I need, the PlusSix I tried was approaching the point where I felt uncomfortable. The A35 is very complex, very clever and safe, but you know that there are multiple computers making it so. So, the Plus 8 stays for as long as I'm able to drive! Going out in it tonight... it will be wet and windy, but it makes me smile!

It's a good reason to drive a Morgan in the rain!

I'll get the fuel consumption formalised on Tuesday when I fill the tank, but I'm in the same zone as SteveT….just over 40 by the look of it, which is 10mpg more than I was getting. Low down grunt is transformed and the extra power is obvious at the higher end. I'm very pleased with it.

I must say I enjoy the acceleration of My +8 Bitsa. But for pure driving enjoyment My 1963 +4-4Str is the best. It brings out the "Walter Middy" in Me. But I have done a lot to make this +4 perform. Gemmer steering, Porterfield Brakes, thrust bearings under main spring, Koni's on all corners, Factory 4 seater seats, Laycock OD, Alternator, reduction starter, late Model Australian rear axle, 72 spoke wires and balanced engine, I have owned this +4 since 1994, in 1999 I had Greg Solow rebuild My Moss Box. Expensive but it is still a joy today. This +4 has been across the U.S. 3 times and to France for the 50th celebration. I think it is a keeper.
