........First mini frustration was removing the over riders from the fixings. Having established the right sized socket, I then found there wasn’t enough room for my ratchet lever to fit, so back to the tool box and used a suitable open ended spanner.
However they are still fixed at the bottom by a cross head screw. After much faffing around I found the right sized screwdriver head and then found the screwdriver handle was not working, a ratchet style handle that now seems to only want to screw things in and will just spin in the “lock” or “undo” position. More ferreting around found a suitable substitute handle and the over riders came off.
Those lower rear overrider screws are described as socket button M6 x 20 in the parts manual. It seems in recent years MMC have been fitting cross head screws though, requiring very short screwdriver, so poor purchase. When I finally got mine off I replaced with stainless socket button screws allowing simple removal with allen key.

I managed to remove mine by jacking the car up (and placing it on axle stands). I could then use an impact driver which required very little force. Now replaced with stainless socket screws.

This is exactly how I replaced the overrider screws. Without an impact driver those screws were stuck fast and going nowhere! Stainless sockets from Screwfix / Toolstation.

Just to continue this slight thread drift. I purchased both metric and imperial 1/4" square drive Allen (hex) key sets. Ball end versions are available that work at modest angles. These are particularly useful where an access hole is not aligned with the bolt head. I'm thinking of course of the overrider lower screw  ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/3LIAAOSw4mxdQl3g/s-l1600.png) Either type make work on socket head bolts so much easier though.

Highly recommended. - Fitted mine before my Coast Road Trip and with Greasing every three days, wherever, it was a doddle to do. And with Dave W's Bump Spring Gaiters fitted, just a quick check & occasional wipe around the base edge and Job Done.
