I may be under thinking this but, if the flywheel has the Miata bolt pattern (which I've confirmed via a friend that races Miata's) the trans is Miata, the starter is off the same vintage Miata, then a Miata clutch assembly should work.
I agree about the weight and the flywheel that MMC uses is definitely light weight and probably steel versus a light weight Miata aluminium flywheel. 180mm or 200mm, doesn't matter as it is still the Miata trans with bell housing so if it works with the Miata it would work with the M3W.
I remember when I was building VW dune buggies back in the late 60's that the stock VW had a 180mm clutch and the hot setup then was the 200mm upgrade. So bigger is better for strength.
Here's a light weight Miata flywheel/clutch assembly. This assembly comes with the standard Miata type throwout bearing, rather than the Volvo unit MMC uses. My thoughts are that the Miata slave cylinder was removed to save foot well space as it's on the outside of the bell housing.
