Rolsmith, I have the wheel in that position but my vertically challenged self (5'6") is having the tach blocked by the rim and not the spokes. If I was shorter it would be fine, if I was much taller it would be fine but sadly I am not taller and god forbid being any shorter. That is the reason I was interested in swapping the tach to the passenger side.
Dan, I thought it might be a rev limiter but without a dealer to ask I thought I would start looking here. 5200 might have been reached so I will pursue that train of thought. Thanks.
my wife made me a 4" cushion which really helps with seeing the gauges as well as having a better sense of where the front of the M3W is.

As Chris99 says the S&S Engine Manual says not to go above 5800 RPM.

Rodger, I will have to tinker with the cushion lift for a test. As Chris99 says the S&S Engine Manual says not to go above 5800 RPM. Yes, and for those who have never seen this it too is important. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/10/31/IMG_5350.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/10/31/IMG_5351.jpg)

If you want to sit a little higher consider an AirHawk cushion https://www.motohaus.com/airhawk-seat-cushions.html How much higher depends on how much you pump it up but too much & it would be bouncy, normal would be 30 - 50mm. I had one from my scooter but lost it when I left it on the tonneau of my vintage car. If you want to reorientate you wheel spokes no need to drill new holes, disconnect the column under the cowl at the joint & turn the upper column 180deg.

I moved the wheel 180 degrees the second day of ownership, but it is not the spokes as much as the rim of the wheel that artfully blocks the tachometer. I will try lifts of various heights. I believe I have an old Physicians Desk Reference that might be thick enough😊

I tried various cushions raising the height and all it seems to do is block the view even more. I know there are several other drivers who are in the 5'6" range so how much of the tachometer do they see? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/11/23/View1.jpg) I am about ready to try and install an electronic tach mounted in a better location.

Have you considered transposing the speedometer and tachometer? The speedo readings will be visible up to about 60mph, the range that will stop you getting a ticket. The tacho ones will be visible all the way round but to be honest with that engine on the front you have a pretty good idea what it's doing just by the noise and vibrations, the tacho is just for confirmation. If you calibrate the speedo then it will be worth looking at that as well, rather than being 6-8% optimistic. Is your oil gauge in the middle for pressure and temperature, like the SPA one?

I have indeed thought about doing the swap but have not asked what is involved. I could guess that it is a rather simple matter of removing the firewall panel, unplugging the components and then remove and replace the tach and speedo, am I correct? Or did MMC use a wiring loom that means none of the cables are long enough for the swap? At the same time I could figure out how to turn on the dash lights to bright for daytime use maybe without the main lamps on.

Turn on the ignition, press the indicator button until voltage is shown, press and hold it until "ILL" is shown then press it quickly so it cycles through the different levels (lights on) between 1 and 10. You can set the level with another long press of the indicator button.

There is plenty of slack in the wiring & it's a simple job.
