When driving my 2011 Plus 4 (45,000 miles) I recently became aware of a strong smell of burning rubber in the offside front wheel arch. But only in wet weather!
Turns out that the underside of the wing has a protective layer of 'thick' aluminium foil with a thin rubberised top coat - only a few mm thick and assumably applied in the factory to avoid stone damage and to reflect heat from the cat.
Water from the tyres was apparently separating the foil from the wing which then burnt off and vaporised when it dropped down near the cat and exhaust.
I've lost a piece about 24'' by 12'' which I assume needs replacing.
Any ideas what the material is and where I can get some?
Car Builder Solutions list an Aluminised Ceramic Cloth but that lacks the rubber coating and seems thicker than the original material.

I'm amazed that this has been fitted to the plus 4 , well done MMC. I don't think there is a layer on the new plus 8 but I may be wrong. Stone damage is a big issue with thin blown ali as most on here know .

I use Reflect-a-Cool from Agriemach.

The top layer has just separated from the rubberised layer on my Plus 4 after 3 years, but the rubber was intact. There are some pics on my AR exhaust post.

On my Roadster, I cleaned the wings and added a layer of Wickes pretend lead flashing. It's a self adhesive plastic, and put Reflect-a-Cool over the top. That has stayed put but the wing has to be cleaned well. I used white spirit.

Thanks Dave. I'll be ordering from Wicks & Agriemach and cleaning the area well before I apply.
