Today I go on retirement so now I am being paid to breathe.
The adventure starts now though I have no idea what I will do apart from driving the Mog.

John

I have been retired 10 years...the first 6-8 months is like being on holiday then Retirement proper begins...

Like you I have trips out in my Morgan but I have other interests.

Surely you have hobbies and interest.

Not everybody takes to retirement believe it or not..some of the guys that worked under me had no interests and took part time jobs or volunteered for various charities.

Today for example I cycled 50 miles in cold but bright sunshine and feel great.

I can recommend shoplifting also as an occasional sport...keeps the mind active !!!

Good Luck with the rest of your life !!!

Maybe buy yourself a wooden boat.

Between mucking about on it in the summer and varnishing it all winter, you won't have a moment of spare time laugh

When I retired 9 years ago I was advised not to take on anything for at least 9 months. Sound advice as people were beating a path to my door "Now you are retired can you help with/ take charge of/ do this?" Learn to say no or there will be no point to retiring. I now volunteer for National Trust - Room Guide, Conservation Volunteer (I get to handle the things that are marked "DONOT TOUCH"!) and Father Christmas. I run about 20 miles per week (did a 10k run this morning), spend time with the family and get involved with Mog-related activities plus driving the 4/4 whenever I feel the urge.
The other bit of advice was - "don`t save up for retirement - you are retired" so I am busy going through my children`s inheritance with their blessing and admiration. Enjoy each day to the full, savour life as we do not know what is round the corner - hopefully another Morgan so we can head of to a pub for a meal and a chat.

PS I wondered where my wallet had gone after my last conversation with Kev! Perhaps he ought to change his moniker to the Yorkful Dodger.

Congratulations. I imagine you will soon fill up your days with things that you want to do rather than have to do. I'm on final approach with only 9 more fee-earning days to fulfil between now and February.

I am already busy with other things, cyling like KEVFITZ, tinkering with the Morgan, re-arranging stuff and throwing out a load of things that I once thought I would need - "just in case". I have also picked up my guitar again and am busy building up the pads on my fingers to ease the pain. Once the work ebbs away I plan to get back into my darkroom and print up some of the negatives that deserve to be remembered - a small percentage of those I took over the forty years I used black and white film - which I still do. I'm going to be busy and hope you will be too.

John,

I'm 18 months in. So far, so good.
I do not miss airports and airliners one bit.
I don't miss most of the people I worked with, but I did begin to miss the intellectual challenges.

I startend helping at a local museum, but came to realise that it came with the sort of baggage (politics, incompetence and favouritism) that I hated at work, so I may well stop that.

Then 8 months in I started doing some consulting: working 3 to 6 days a month it is rewarding, both intellectually and financially. The money means I can afford to buy things I want, but don't need, like HiFi upgrades.
I've also started to get a lot more exercise, mainly through hard labour in the garden and helping Caroline with the horse. In the spring I'm going to have lessons and see if I can learn to ride.

We travel more in the UK, mostly indulgent short breaks, buy better wine and generally enjoy life together.
I figure we have another 15 years of enjoying life before we get properly old.....

Talking of fun, I get Tarka back tomorrow, so now it has turned cold and wet I can get out and enjoy life!
