At least they didn't include their usual favourite sentence ... "During normal operating there have not been any recorded instances "

I have a 2012 model with the earlier pedals (see picture) but never received any letter from MMC. Decided to send them an email. Here is the conversation thread: I have a 2012 M3W model . It has the laser cut M3W and has been visually inspected but without any modification done to it. Can you confirm that the visual inspection is sufficient and that over time we run no risk of failure without changing the pedal assembly or is it preferable to do this work?answer MMC With regard to your 2012 3 Wheeler and the brake pedal concern, as long as the inspection has been carried out by a Morgan dealer who would have the information to confirm that there is no further action to take then this would be sufficient. Please can you confirm to both Myself and DSC that this is the case??my answer Visual inspection was done by dealer (as he told me) and no cracks were noticed. Does that mean that the pedal system is safe and how can i carry the inspection myself on a regular basis?answer MMC
I suggest that you ask your dealer to show how to check and also show you the weld on the brake pedal. This way you will be certain it’s done and know exactly where and what to look at.Perfect case of double standards and rather poor issue management. They have a replacement kit for the earlier pedal but will not even mention it. It is up to the user to "regularly check" visually and then make a short prayer when driving. If it did not concern the brake pedal i would not have posted an email exchange but i thought this should be shared

As I understand it they are looking for a 3mm fillet weld on the inner right hand face at the base of the brake pedal actuator arm. In some cases it is incomplete/insufficient, so should be relatively easy for your dealer to identify if you are affected. The dealer has a bulletin from MMC showing the correct position and extent of the weld.

Everyone always talks about "Their Dealer" yet in the USA Dealerships are few and very far between.

I guess for MMC the dealer is their only route to market as with any other car.
If you PM me your email address I can send you a snapshot of the bulletin, sorry but posting things on the forum is a skill I haven’t mastered yet.

If you have laser cut pedals to be safe you really need the modification kit. Even if there is a fillet weld there are a lot of torsional forces on the tube and welds between the pedal and the actuator arm. I would not trust it. Better safe than sorry.

Wilson +1. Definitely the right way to go, how often is enough to check if the brake pedal weld is still OK? This linkage in unmodified form is not fail safe, the torsion tube is a poor design badly engineered. The addition of a simple, cheap and easy to install modification makes it fail safe and removes the need for regular inspections. It also removes that doubt at the back of your mind, "are the brakes going to fail?????" every time you drive your M3W.

How can any owner (and why should he/she) be expected to inspect the weld on his brake pedal to ascertain whether or not it is safe to use before he takes the car on the road. As we have said on other threads in the past concerning chassis cracks, a weld that is beginning to fail would not be detectable visually with the naked eye, even if the person carrying out the inspection really knew what they were doing. For any car that has the M3W cut into the pedals, the only safe remedy is to replace the whole pedal box assembly. Why would have MMC gone away from the earlier "cut out pedal" assemblies if they thought they were OK?

In the recall letter MMC tell you “it’s important that you take your vehicle to an authorised Morgan Dealer for inspection”. The problem (they say) is missing or incomplete fillet weld that could cause failure. So if you have a missing or incomplete weld they will fit new parts.
