I had side exits on both 76 and 84 4/4 's then my 89 P4 all of which sounded deep and burbly and were fine on long hauls.

I agree with Andy G. Depends how You use Your Morgan. I am often in the Drivers Seat 8 to 10 hours, I want it quiet as possible. I also live in a Very Quiet Neighborhood with a long Hill I must climb to exit. Noise is not my friend.

I have Librands manifolds. I have tried both rear and side exhausts over the years on my +8. Used to get blow back of exhaust fumes sometimes with rear pipes so switched back to side exits 10 years ago. Made sure the boxes on both sides have a decent amount of wadding and I have no noise problems whilst driving, often in the car all day crossing Europe.

I converted both 4/4 and +8 to side exhaust with removed silencers, best sound ever and I drove the +8 8000 miles on Morgans Over America with no noise issues for me. Can't hear my wife now but that's a blessing smile

I think you either love a side exit or not. I specified my plus 8 with them and I love them.

Now I'm getting tempted by the side exit!

I had one of my old S2A Landies converted to V8, and had a pair of side exit Ashley exhausts made up for it. Sounded pretty good....

Presumably the exhust would exit on the right in the UK to avoid spraying pedestrians with exhust gas but if the vehicle was registered in Europe would it exit on the other side?

Exhaust would have to exit on the same side as the engine exhaust manifold. On the Xflow engine, that's the left (UK Passenger side).
