After which there seemed to be a change in ideals of Morgan folk who began to look at possibilities for power steering, more comfortable suspension, perhaps a tad more bling, and with that more heater performance perhaps even an auto-box and wider doors, air-con can`t be too far away..... Had you asked me about that kind of stuff 20 years ago, I might have replied that it would all have been as useful as an ashtray on a motor cycle.... TODAY.... Well we are all getting older, our expectations and NEEDS have altered... Truth be told wider doors and a slow acting ejector seat on my mid 80`s +8 might seem to better fit my NEEDS these days.. (-:

As for new buyers expectations.... I suspect a bit like us...err...mature Morganeers, they expect degrees of comfort that we have become used to in our mundane-mobiles, when they jump into a new and rather expensive Morgan to try it for size...? That being the case the CX seems a logical next step..?

Well I ordered aircon with the car and have no regrets. When the temperature gets up into the 30s and the sun starts to fry my brains I put the hood up and the aircon on. It is not climate control but it is better than nothing.

As for ride comfort you can see what I have done.

My expectations as a buyer in 2012 were not that I was buying a car with an antique chassis and suspension and suspension that needed greasing every few kilometers. What I expected was a moderately modern car with a classic sports car body. I did not expect the CX but my expectations were probably halfway between the trad and the CX.

I do hope that my ramble was not taken as any form of criticism relative to anyone`s personal choices for their Morgan spec.. ? Peter, I was in Italy and stuck in a traffic jam in Naples and with starter issues in June 2003, a time when Italians were fainting in the street with heat stroke.... So yes had my old Mog been fitted with air-con at that time it would have been on full blast, though as it was I switched the heater on in a bid to keep the engine cool...!!!!

I also hinted that there could be some "extras" that today I might find more suitable relative to my changing preferences than I may have desired in times past, oh and add to that heated seats now Winter has arrived..(-:

My gripe in hot weather is the glue holding the stone guard pads under the front wings melted off . Need to carry some glue when abroad!

Must be the same glue as they use on the 110 bonnet badge that slid gracefully off last August. Luckily I was parked at the time and the badge still resides in the glove box...

When I built My +8 Bitsa, air conditioning was on My List. Mrs. Button did not handle heat well and I wanted Her to join Me on My Trips. I bought a Vintage Air Conditioning Unit from an outfit in Texas. This is a Universal Product that I hoped I could install in My +8. I used some pictures of a Bill Fink installation to figure out where I could locate the condensors and pump. As it turned out Mrs. Button would not be able to join Me and I abandoned the idea. I still have the parts in a large box in the attic. I try to time My trips in the Spring and in the Fall. This Year I also to a trip to Southern Calif in July for MogWest. But stayed on Hiway 1 and 101 near the Pacific Coast. Fortunately the weather was cool for SoCal this time.

Seems to me that the key issue here is the mindset of the person buying the car. I have often read of people on here seeing the Morgans crude suspension and brakes and bdy design as things they want because it gives them a link with moroting in a different era albein with a reliable modern engine. I dont understand that mentality but it has to be a major factor in Morgan purchases - why would you buy something that drives and looks like a car from the 40s if you didnt want a car that drives and looks like something from the 40s?

With the new chassis you now have a modern car just clothed in an old style body with no modern facilities like leak proof hood and aerodynamics. Why would you want to spend say £60k on such a car when you could have a Boxter or an Alpine or a Lotus? Sure some people will do so just to be different. But no longer is driving it an 1940s experience.

Well Howard. My hood does not leak and even at 130 kph more slippery aerodynamics only serve to save a drop of fuel. So I think we can throw those two arguments out for a start. Also the seating comfort is better than on a couple of modern cars that we have owned. That leaves ride and handling: well on my modified car it is acceptable and of course I would expect a CX Plus x to be better, a lot better.

So that leaves one thing, and I think it is the thing that attracts most Morgan owners, and that is style. Kids and some big kids, that see a Ferrari go past might give it a glance but when they see a Morgan it is all smiles, a thumbs up, a wave and a "Nice car!". Pretty young things want to know if you can take them to their wedding etc.

I think that is what makes the Morgan style so special and for me that is a good part of the enjoyment of owning a Morgan and not an MX5.

The point is stopping the trad production.

As told at some points my wife and me visit the factory 30 years ago and agreed: let's spare some money and buy it if we are 50...
it tooks some time longer. But I've got the pricelist from a time far away. And: our car was about 100.000 DM in the mid 1980ies. As the wish come true last year the car was (now real basic, with only five wishes) not far away from 50K EUR.

As I have a look at the "wishlist" today there where some strange things... Servo? Aircon? But no sparewheel?

Hmm, I also think about a visit in the factory with the first alloy chassis. It's a long time ago, but this long time ago I think: that's the future. It took a long time and now it would be real.

So I'm on two sides: happy to get a trad, but looking forward Morgan is still alive. A little step forward, but not too far.
