Looking at the photos posted above of Rob and Craig’s cars, makes me realise what is being lost. The Trad just has a grace and elegance which is not carried over in the new chassis cars to the same degree. The Aero derived Plus 8 and the new a Plus 6 are handsome enough but there is something lacking. They just look a bit brutish in comparison and, like others have commented, pastiches of a traditional Morgan.

I totally agree that the trad has a certain elegance and purity of design that the Plus 6 doesn't despite being so impressive.

I realise that the trads have their shortcomings and would be almost impossible to live with on a daily basis, but to me the whole point of the car is that Its so different to drive from a modern car. Every trip in a trad is memorable.

I'm sure the CX cars will be be successful, however the trads will always have a following and as I said earlier I feel mine is even more desirable now trad production is finishing.

Its certainly going to be an interesting time with new CX models forthcoming, however if I were you I'd be very happy with the Roadster you have on order!

In terms of aesthetics, it would be interesting to see two identical spec Mogs side by side in exactly the same colour

One new Plus Six and it’s nearest equivalent in wing width, the outgoing Roadster.

In specification, I mean no spots and the same bumper/valance arrangement

The Plus 6 looks inflated and a little crude in comparison. Not that the Plus 6 is horrible in any way. It’s still a great looking car - but something is lost in the translation, if I can put it that way. I also dislike the wheels on the Plus 6.

If these were models and you picked them up by the wheels you can easily imagine the difference in resistance to chassis twist.

I would say in the metal the +6 looks chunkier though not so much.

I wonder if there will be a wire wheel option for the smaller engined cars?
I’m not a huge fan of the latest body, I don’t like the air intakes, outlets or the dimensions. Sadly the days of the narrow body cars have gone. I love the delicacy of the 4/4. I can’t see them being able to create that.

But that’s only my opinion, I’m out of the market for a new Morgan now as I don’t want a pastiche of a Trad and for the money there are other cars without the annoying foibles they have. I’m sure they will do well. If they built a modern bodied car with proper leakproof hood and wind up windows I’d reconsider.

I certainly hope so.

I dream of an Aero 4 Coupe.... enough power, striking body, electric windows, ABS and an electric hood... Who knows?

In the end, all that matters is that enough people are around with enough money to support planned CX production numbers.

If these customers want quick, quirky looking, but quite boring, with bells and whistles, then the CX will provide this. It won't attract many hands on enthusiast because it doesn't provide that lifestyle.

Few trad owners will migrate, because last time with the Aeros, I believe more new customers came on board than former trad owners for similar reasons.

There will always be classic car nuts with dirty fingernails who aspire to own a trad, and that trickle should service the s/h trad market.

Morgan have done the right thing. It's probably not practical to build trads to special order, but I reckon they could make a few trad Plus 4's each year as part of the visitor experience. If not, then maybe full restorations of trads in a heritage workshop.
