I'm very skeptical for the future Mtw
Homologation seems to be very hard for the next years

If I remember correctly, a separate company was founded for the M3W. Do you think Investindustrial bought this company too? I ask if anything happens because of the legal risks in the USA.

I am in two minds about this...

Morgan has lost their USP in discontinuing the trad model, as the unique thing about Morgan was that it was a Morden classic car in essence one that was simple to understand and provided a rustic motoring Experience with cheap running costs, little to no depreciation and fun.. The new Chassis and complexity gives with with this heritage to modernity. One only has to look at the sales split to see that the Aero chassis cars were far less popular than the traditional chassis cars, they also have far higher running costs

People also say that the new car reach a younger ownership group! Well I am 35 and has a Morgan since I was 21, I can’t afford the cash outlay to buy a new CX Morgan given that it will be £60k +, Morgan’s used to be a relatively cheap sports car, if you were spending £60k on a sports car as a young person you would not buy a Morgan, you would have a 911, Secondhand Aston, New Alpine a110 etc..

On the positive side I appreciate due to regulations they have to do it at some point and maybe 2020 is good time to do it and it might help the values of Traditional Morgan’s.

Also 300,000 visitors at £24 a pop I don’t think they will be as keen to see a CX chassis car built as they are no longer making a car they made 83 years ago so the romanticism and uniqueness is gone!

You could say 83 years out of date. It was well and truly superseded by the end of the 50s let alone at the beginning of the 2020s. Think about the tour groups that go to Lotus and they long ago ceased production of the Super Seven and Caterham are now making a car that has moved along a fair way too whilst still keeping faith with the basic style and concept.

When we have a rally here there are thousands to tour what is left of Moto Guzzi production. Goodness knows how many will be here for the 100th Anniversary Rally in 2021.

We went to Lotus a few years ago. It cost, from memory, £65. It was a pleasant tour but glass and shiny metal and so quite sterile.

The best part??? In the old brick sheds belonging to Classic Team Lotus.

No doubt there will be plenty of classic restoration work on rusted out 1930s-2010s chassis vehicles, and they deliberately kept the wood in CX to keep the woodshop busy. I dont think tours will be affected!

I am one who *would* consider a CX (/Elise etc) but not a new trad (sliding pillar suspension? that was out of date in the 30s! grease points?) although I doff my cap at the owner-maintainer community for as long as they exist! A £35-40K CX would still make a Mazda MX look like value, but would be relatively affordable versus a Focus ST etc...

I don't understand why everybody feels this will be good for values of traditional Morgans. To be honest, I don't feel that way.
Second hand Morgans will (in my personal view) mainly go to new Morgan customers.
If they have a choice between a second hand steel-chassis Plus 4 and a CX PlusFour with better handling, more safety features and a better engine I'm not sure if they see the uniqueness of the original trad.
I would probably go for the CX (if I could afford it at that moment).

Oooh, there's a thought. A CX DHC variant with proper doors and wind-up windows.

That would, at a stroke, get rid of the only element I can say I actually dislike about my 4/4s - the rattly/squeaky/stiff/leaky sidescreens.

Just typing this has made me REALLY want a CX DHC

I think you are overestimating the knowledge and mechanical interest of the vast majority of visitors and potential new buyers. It mostly comes down to the Morgan aesthetics and possibly an element of nostalgia in the modern age of motoring that mostly appeals.

I think it's the curves, not the chassis that matters most!

It was a good six months into Plus Four ownership before greasing nipples was brought to my attention on this very parish and I still curse the knuckle skinning chore.
