The only problem is that Morgan seems to use a size that is not all that comon. 73mm and 95mm diameter replacement LED lamps are readily available but Morgan uses lamps that are about 82 mm or 3 1/4 inches diameter. The plinth is 84 mm or 3 5/16 inches diameter. Nobody seems to make replacement LED replacements in this size. I have considered gutting the existing units and putting 73 mm lamps inside them.

I'm also considering this as a future project. Some of the modern LED sidelight, brakelight and indicator units are well put together a look to be fully sealed against the weather. Just a case of figuring out how to mount them to the car and retain the style.

If the existing plinths are 84mm in diameter and you can get lights that are 95mm, one simple solution would be to get some sleeves to go over the existing plinths to match up with the larger size lights, the easy way to do this would be to use a 3D printer. That way you could print sleeves with the necessary 5.5mm wall thickness so they could be fixed over the existing plinths, retaining the original body fixings.

I love the way you say "the EASY way to do this would be to use a 3D printer"

Just rolls of the tongue doesn't it !!!!

Stuff like this is actually very simple, Bob. Shapes like this are very easy to draw up in 3D CAD, and wil print in something like ABS with no problems. I pre-processed this prototype and it would take about 24 hours to print in very high resolution at a cost of around 3 quid's worth of filament. You could do it much quicker and cheaper by using a lower resolution, but you'd have to sand it down more to get a perfectly smooth surface for painting. It would print even easier flipped over so the tube was upright, but I took the screenshot before I did that.

Tim. Why stop with a simple plinth. These days you could print yourself a car.

But the market has moved very fast in the last couple of years, you can get much cheaper ones these days.

Thanks Tim,

I fancy trying my hand at 3D printing so I'll do some studying and see where it leads.

Don't think I can justify your machine though.

They've been fine, but recently I was alerted to the availability of high-output versions by a fellow Morgan owner and lurker on TM. They are available from www.bettercarlighting.co.uk and I fitted a set today. They really are significantly brighter than the original ones I was using, it's quite impressive how the technology has advanced so fast in a few years.

Here they are half-way through fitting, so you can see the difference.

Tim have looked on their website which is quite confusing as they say the 380 stop/tails are available as a pair listed further on but can only see POS earth ones. Do you have part number of the high viz stop/tail that fit our rear lenses please as they also look rather long?

Ta
Colin (as my spare wheel carrier and spare blocks the high Viz these are a must for me.)

Did post a reply but can’t see it? Just saying thanks for info. Pete and I plan to visit in the spring and grab some plus some mini fuses as my stocks are low.

The Cobra style light is a bit better in this respect but when there is luggage on you still need to work out some system to get a 3rd brake light on top of the luggage.
