I fancy trying my hand at 3D printing so I'll do some studying and see where it leads.
Don't think I can justify your machine though.
Creality Ender 3 printers seem to be quite popular at the moment, you can get them for less than £250 so a much easier entry point than Ultimaker kit. I'd still recommend using Ultimaker Cura as your slicer software though, it's free and very efficient at converting drawings to gcode. I use TurboCAD for doing the 3D modelling but that's just because it's what I'm familiar with, a lot of people use Fusion360 which has a free version available.
