I tried tying a scarf to the drivers roll hoop to give the impression of a flying scarf without the risk. Once up to 50mph or so it blew forwards, into the cockpit. It was only about a meter long, once tied. Perhaps if it was longer it might have trailed better.

Did it have the full windscreen? It sure would explain a large percentage of debris in the cockpit after a ride.
