Sounds like the OP may have octagonal nuts.. In which case there is no need to hit them at all, just get one of the long spanner type wrenches. I used an MG one on my Healey, plenty of leverage as they are at least 2 ft long. Never did like all that whacking malarkey and your chrome stays perfect.

If OP really does have octagonal nuts I fear there is little we can do for him as a GP appointment would be after Christmas!!

Don’t worry Rene’, us English like to confuse. OP is short for Original Poster (you in this case). GP is short for General Practitioner (Doctor) And if you don’t understand why you need to visit a doctor with octagonal nuts...nuts is a slang for testacles!

Oh, great help! So I don't worry. We are some guys and one girl meeting one day a week for to have an eye at some thing to screw (I hope it's political -and other things- correct). The girl is a graduadetd doctor (medical)... But she's a star girl (you think it: "Mercedes") that's her problem. When we "Brit boys" have the usual problems, her problems are special. A "imperial problem solver" can't work at her W211...
So in summary: I think we're a special club under medical control...

Use whatever tool you like, but please stop hitting spinners with hammers! If is non scientific and barbaric! Plenty other options available, for example the MGOC tool.

please stop hitting spinners with hammers! Err, but that's exactly what they were designed for. Spinners came about so that you could quickly tighten or loosen wheel nuts with a hammer. This idea that they should be kept pristine is what's wrong, not the notion that they should be used as intended.

I still use and have used a lead hammer to tighten and loosen Two eared spinners. Haven't damaged one Yet. I agree with Tim. They were designed to be hit with a hammer. I prefer a lead hammer to a copper-hide-hammer. My choice.

Lead hammers are better than copper as they do not work harden. As an alternative I have used Thor dead blow hammers.

I tried the MGOC tool once, it disintegrated by the time I got to the 3rd wheel. Ended its days in the wood burner.
As clumsy as I can be, I've never managed to damage either the spinner, the wheel, the car or myself when using a lead hammer when taking a spinner off!
