I am a fan of what the product does but I am not a fan of the particular product, the recent debacle of them being hacked is a typical example of the things we are going to see for a while.

The issue with most of the cheap'n'cheerful Internet of Things (IoT) devices in your home is that they have been dumbed down too far in order to make them easy to use and support free as far as possible. This leaves the password and hacking issue as soft targets. As you can see from the google search the access it gives you is ALL to personal. Many of the products are at risk of this so I do not specifically mean to call out RING. Having said that the advantage it brings for a person living alone or travelling could outweigh this quite easily and the product has a very valid goal.
I have seen several IoT based door lock things and would no sooner use one of these than boil my love spuds. I also think my insurance company may have something to say.
Basic things like changing passwords from the default, changing the names (SSID on WiFI) of admin, never using defaults where possible. There are literally dozens of small camera tools that are pretty good and some of the outdoor CCTV stuff includes the remote video/audio which is the most appealing stuff from RING.
If you are using WiFi then please make certain (apply the 13 y.o. tool) that the encryption is set to WPA2 Personal and not WEP or WPA1 (or 1+2) as this is weak and allows someone to get on your LAN when all these easy things become more friendly.
I am waiting for a couple of steps of improvement in the security architecture of IoT stuff before I let it in any critical elements. I do have about 30-40 devices on the LAN but being a nerdy thing it is quite well configured.
RING is a good product and if all the right steps are taken on setup it brings a real benefit, just consider the "worst case" issue on everything as always.
