Only trouble is you have to buy a new sat-nav. but they are excellent and keep you on roads your 'van can handle. You program it with the 'van's dimensions.

Thanks Bob... Will check that out..... I've got used to using the app on my phone, it's just so convenient having it always in my pocket (along with still/vid camera, radio, etc etc.... Phones are magical sci-fi tech to someone bought up on valves.. I'm techy enough to be mightily impressed and not take them for granted! )..... May have to go for a stand-alone to get what I want tho.

One of the great feature of using the Tyre to Travel is it uses Google Maps as a base map and you can simply use the Street View option to actually see what the route looks like as images and effectively drive the route. I found this very useful when trialling routes for runs.

"TOP TIP" always force in additional waypoints to stop satnavs from creating 'shortcuts' and also ensure that these are not on top of newly completed tunnels as I (and the creator of this thread will confirm as we) went through it twice and paid the toll before I realised the problem drive banghead

Thanks for the recommendations... Will check those out..... My average trip is to head south several hundred miles from the North East of Scotland on really familiar main roads I've driven a hundred times .... Then turn on the satnav for the last 30ish miles to get me from some motorway through a tangle of backroads to a hillclimb in the middle of nowhere... Ideally a 'truck' (or 'caravan') button to keep the thing from picking the quickest route even where it was a goat track would be the simplest.... But I'm sure I could pre-programne the routes to the tracks I frequent during the winter off season.

Thanks again

K

It's a pity you can't get a rolling video of the journey but have to do it in steps.

Rest assured, no-one twigged on. We assumed you were trying to re-enter the tunnel before the last car in the convoy exited it. A couple more circuits and I think we might have done it, if “Dave Cameras” hadn’t bailed out earlier.
Its very entertaining to watch a mapping dispute taking place in a soft top car that’s just ahead of you.

In fact any dispute in the soft top car just ahead of you is an excellent spectator sport. However, it is best not to offer supporting arguments when both cars stop at a red light.

Bob, my Garmin allows the selected route to be run so you can see it in action before setting off. I have used it a couple of times to get an overview in my mind and identify waypoints that I would expect to see.
I have also used google street view to get visuals of some junctions/turns to spot landmarks to use as they are approached. That way you don’t need to use street view for the whole journey, just for key points.
