Recently I was chatting to my daughter about cancelling Sky and buying a Humax recorder.
Never did a web search and within an hour on the Car and Classic site a banner appeared advertising a Humax !

On my phone I use Duck Duck Go as a trouser: it confuses Google. It may appear on my iMac at this rate...

I installed it on the iMac and the next day deleted it.
It seems to favour US based organisations when searching, to the point that it is unhelpful.
As an example, I was searching for QUAD HiFi. The website is www.//quad-hifi.co.uk.
DDG simply couldn't find it....

I must admit to finding the DDG was blind to a lot of the more esoteric stuff I get involved in as well. I use it for more interesting stuff and just resort to Google for general work. Lets face it, as mentioned above, they have us tracked to the nines anyway.

(anyone going to fess up to buying that speaker cable at 1.5m for £249, I hope thats a pair as well!) thumbs

This is the way I look at it. I just assume that everything I do or say on the internet is public knowledge. I'm going to get bombarded with adverts anyway, so they may as well be for things I'm interested in rather than any old toss.

Mrs W called me into the kitchen to take the lid off a jar of peppers. Having done it, I returned to my laptop and found Facebook displaying an advert for a device that removes jar lids.

We don't have Alexa or anything like it but it's hard to believe it was coincidence.

Did you try clicking on "Why am I seeing this ad?".

Not that it would help much. They're hardly likely to say "It's because we've bugged your kitchen and have your missus under 24 hour surveillance".
