Any holes bigger than 3/8" (10mm) in sheet metal, I prefer to use a Q-Max hole cutter for a nice, clean, burr free hole.

Rather than drill holes in the body, has anyone found a Ariel that you can fit inside the car that works?

I did try that - and thought I had found the answer. But reception was very sporadic and not at all consisten - hence abandoning that idea and going conventional!

I did the job on Aldermog...you are right, making the hole for the cable is a bit scary. I had all the inside trim off so it was easier.

The Morgan antenna is not very good.. I purchased a Hirschman one, 4 x the price and it seems 4 times as efficient at pulling in a signal!

I drilled a pilot hole fo the ariel from the inside -- saves getting it wrong from the outside!!!! Remember to drill through a bit of masking tape if drilling the paint -stops the paint cracking around the hole

My old Mog had a radio fitted in it when I bought it, the radio is mounted on top of the gearbox tunnel, the speakers are mounted in the trim panels just below the hood frame swivel points on each side and I am very pleased that the aerial is not mounted through a hole drilled in the bodywork but mounted on a bracket fixed to the rear bumper. happy to take some pics if thought to be helpful.

Neil, Am in the same boat as bought an aerial to fit and am new to Morgans!! Could you send some useful measurements from any reference point and maybe a photo to assist?

Unlikely a rear bumper mounted whip aerial would have an adequate ground plane to maximise received signal. It would probably work with the strongest radio signals, but so would a piece of wet string

Richard I bow to your superior knowledge of the likely performance of my bumper mounted aerial when compared to wet string... Though in truth had no radio been fitted to my car when I bought it then I suspect I may not have fitted one. I also have to admit I have made use of the radio on a few occasions such as while working on the Mog and while waiting for my good lady to return from shopping etc, thus can confirm that it does indeed operate well enough, though the idea of drilling a largish hole in the bodywork in order to have areal or imagined improvement in radio performance would not have been considered a desirable option. I have no memory of ever trying to make use of the radio on the move, the sound of the old Mog providing quite enough pleasure (-:
