Steve Morris has announced a new +4 for April.
Lots of assumptions but here goes.
Working on the power plant being the same as in the BMW Z4 2.0i, which is the 6 with 2 cylinders less, I have used the price of the Z4 4 pot compared to the 6 pot.
In basic Z4 sportline 2litre is 36k whereas the Z4 3litre 6cyl is 47k say roughly 24% less.
A Morgan +6 with a few extras is 80k.
A Morgan +4 therefore could be 80k - 24% = 60k ish.
A current +4 with all the accepted extras can easily reach that figure and which chassis would you prefer?

I would hope that the new Plus 4 would be priced less than the current V6 Roadster, which starts at £55k.

I prefer the modern suspension of the Plus Six, so I'm intending to get one of the new CX models as my next car.

I have to say I, too, would be tempted but the price will be a big factor. I would not expect the new CX Plus 4 to be less price than the current Roadster. I predict it will start around £62/65K before the inevitable addition of extras to personalise the car (as we all do!) and that can easily bring the cost up to £70K. At that price I will probably hang on to my Roadster, which I have spec’d up to the hilt including ECU upgrade as well as suspension mods and which I really do love.
Maybe wait a couple of years until there might be a few on the market second hand in the £50 to £55K range, which would then be tempting.

Maybe when I get too old to mess I might consider one, but for now, I'm not tempted enough.

I have just purchased a plus 4 and with ok speck you are £60.000 on the road for a traditional model.
Road tax and delivery alone £2400 radio £600 protective film £800 wheels £2000 Paint £1100 the list goes on and on.

New model with spec £75.000 this car will not be cheap

That’s why what’s left of the traditional build will be snapped up as a bargain and re sale will go through the roof as people will struggle to pay £75.000 for a summer car .

Hold on to your traditional car prices will soar with increasing demand

In the moment a CX +4 is out of my interest.

As I'm a poor boy my new +4 was 38.500GBP without VAT in Summer 2018. I had a small wishlist.

So when I think about it I bought this car in cause it's a trad. And looking very deep in my (both) pockets I've got enough pounds.

So there is no option for a change, but now with these reactions here I see the prices of used trad will go down faster than
I expected.

I don't think the effect on Trad residuals is at all predictable, and many people won't go CX because of the cost.

So I agree with Ian…….a well cared for 3.0Roadster for under £40k is a bargain (for example).

There are so few Trads around, and the demand which has sustained for Trads won't suddenly evaporate overnight.

Here's some man maths from around 2012...…..when the 3.7 Roadster was announced, I thought this is the car for me...…... grin2

But then looking at the costs......I would have needed almost £30k on top of my S1 Roadster to do the deal. It made more sense (haha) to put that £30 into a Plus 4, and enjoy two Trads.

The CX is the same logic but the reverse. I could trade both my Trads, and get a CX. I then have one Morgan I can't mess with very much, and for me that's not how I like my cars. That's the reason I never bothered with a Boxster/Mx5/Z4 and so on.

The Trad Plus 8 prices started rising once the final 50th anniversary models were all sold these cars will remain an icon.
I see all the Trad prices firming as we progress through this year and onwards Rene you hang in there you won't be disappointed.

I don't see that the CX PlusFour will impact the Trad pricing so much, a bit of a guess on my part is that the new higher price will shore up the prices of the existing pool of Trads.
When the Aero came out I don't think that the customer base crossed over too heavily. It hardly cannibalised the Trad purchases did it!

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
