Dave, sadly I agree with you. I fear that the P6 will gain the same 'reputation' as the TVR's had in the 80's and this won't be the first thread on here about P6 accidents...

Was the TVR reputation as much about the type of people who were drawn to that marque as it was about any handling foible of the cars themselves?

1. Batteries Flat
2. Dealers number on speedial 1
3. Tyre supplier on speedial 2
4. Insurance company on speedial 3
5. ARDS tutor on speedial 4
6. Huge grin on face, ha ha ha ha ha ha, the rest doesn't count.
7. Spank it into a ditch once.
8. Won't do it again and drive like a fluffer with a huge grin on your face blipping it at every junction forever....

I loved them but never bought one because they were end-changing demons. Times change and Morgan has to as well.

On top of that, the driver was probably very overburdened and may never have driven a Morgan before at all. And...within 300 meters of the dealership...cold tyres.

The only thing to "blame or make any type of observation upon" is the driver......if he crashed this demo vehicle, through over exuberance, then he is a complete d**k head.

If something mechanical broke on the car - or someone else caused the accident, then I withdraw the above.

Any car will spin or lose control, if you "hoof it!" - I suspect that the blame will be the driver.......

Is it time to start introducing "Supercar (and Superbike) Driving Licences"

Pick a number but maybe anything over 200bhp per Tonne (for cars) should require extra training and an advanced driving test including some sort of closed road evaluation.

Then no driving of said vehicles, including road tests without the licence.

It might be a bit "nanny state" but it might stop us all being tarred with the same brush and alleviate the desire to bring more and more "safety" features into the regulations.

Imagine a rich 26 year old buying a 500hp AMG MB - and him passing this new "super-car" test...are they going to drive any safer on the roads...of course not...they will have the mentally that they are now Lewis Hamilton and can drive faster...the pub bragging rights would be outrageous?

Only the VM can provide you with some training and again - you cannot make it mandatory?

Yes I agree but if the test is stringent enough on a closed road then at least the examiner can tell if the driver understands the impact of flooring the throttle and has at least got some measure of car control if it does get a bit out of shape. (e.g. If heading straight for a tree, take foot off accelerator and apply brake)

However the main benefit would be that if the "rich 26 year old" ( ageism? ) crashes his super car then the courts could take his Super Car Licence off him and at least stop him doing it again as soon as his Dad buys him another car.

He would also have to explain to his mates that he's had his Super Car Licence revoked which would not do his reputation much good down the pub.

At the other end of the age spectrum. I wonder if the AVERAGE 90 year old would still have the reactions and mental accuity to handle a "Supercar"
