My+8 is turning 50 this year so I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate on the actual date of first registration. The original logbook was taken by the Virginia Dept. of motor vehicles in 1976 when I imported the car and myself, so I lost the information.
The DVLA website shows similar reg numbers in April and May 1970 but I cannot pin down an actual date.

Chassis number is R 7228 and original reg was CNP 160H.

Can anyone here help?

CN was a Gateshead/Newcastle number - up until 1974. H was a 1969 plate.

"CNPnnnH" was a Worcester mark issued from April 1970 onwards. As yours isn't in the DVLA system then the two closest either side numerically is the best you can hope for.

Why not apply to MMC for the chassis record which will tell you the date the car was dispatched from the factory. I think is probably a better "birthday" to celebrate anyway. You can order it from the website, a bit pricey at £75 but it will answer the question.

Might be a bit of a delay in response over that though - until Martyn can get his archive back under control.

R7230 was first registered on 21st May 1970. R 7234 0n the 28th.Both in the UK.
Those are the closest to yours I can find.
My guess for 7228 would be the 18th on that basis! Have a good party.
Cheers.
