The original paint on my '71 Plus 8 is dark blue ICI Cellulose P030-0023

I have spent hours searching for the correct paint. Does anyone have a cross reference?

I had some paintwork done on my car, the information is as follows:

Colour: Indigo Blue

Manufacturer: ICI

code: P420-0088
this is a water based paint. It may cross reference.

Thanks for the reply. Based on the info elsewhere on this board, Indigo Blue seems to be a later color and has a different code. I am hoping to find the cross reference for the original dark blue.

You cannot trust the code - on an older car. Colours change over time or it may have been painted in the past?

Go to a Bodyshop and get them to drop their Spectrometer on the paint - so that it reads the colour (as it is now). They are very accurate and will save time and money in the long run.

I wish it was that easy. The car was previously repainted the wrong blue. I am stripping the paint and would like to go back to original.

Gomog has some good information. My +8 is the same colour but ii had it repainted in the USA in 1988. The body shop used a Jaguar colour but it was not the same blue. Close but not the same.

According to Morganatica Indigo Blue was used in 1969 and 1970 so could have been used on a 1971 registered car. I dont think Morgan were hard and fast with dates of changes and as we know the customer could have ordered any shade or colour then as now.

A car paint supplier should be able to cross reference paint codes. Regarding the choice between Indigo Blue over Dark Blue, I would go with which i like best as both are period correct.

Have you tried checking with the factory for the build information on the car? Cost £75 I believe but worth it for the provenance of a 50 year old car.

Yes, I have the factory build sheet and it confirms P030-0023.

Nobody has been able to cross reference that to a code a shop can mix.

I have checked PPG, Glasurit etc.

Anybody have a source?

Back in '71 probably using Cellulose, which has a different 'finish' to modern 2 pack, a sort of different gloss level, as others have mentioned a reputable bodyshop colour scanner will sort it

I'd pm Dean-Royal he is the paint expert on here and offers professional advise to TM'ers willingly good bloke that he is.
