Excellent Job Richard, If only I possessed such skills.

You may find, as I did that a strategically placed block of 1cm thick neoprene located under the QR Head End when in its clip will stop it rattling against some bodywork or Bonnet

Thanks Frank. Will bear that suggestion in mind. The plastic coated Terry clips I used, although small, grip the 6mm stays really well and placed so nothing touches any metal. The pack I bought means I have spares and easily replaceable as held on with tiny 2mm screws.

I have been well impressed by the ingenuity and craftmanship involved in the suggestions regarding making your own locking bonnet stays. Sadly, I feel I am not able to emulate most of these.

As Inspector Harold Callahan said in Dirty Harry, "A man has to know his limitations!"

However, I can cope with stuffing a safety pin

through a 1.5mm hole

and when the wind blows,

the bonnet stays safely in place!

Safety pins are stored conveniently in the glove box. Job done.

Ingenious idea but a faff fitting safety pins at each end maybe. You did say you fitted at bottom of stay as well didn't you wink hide

That would be too much like hard work! My stays are Heart of England and are bolted in place at the bottom, as are most I expect. Only pinned at the top. I wondered about R clips at the top but I did not have any small enough.

Sorry didn't look at age of your car(s). Your pics looked to show the current ex factory "harpoons" which aren't secured at either end!

Mine will be retired to a distant corner of the garage now.

The bottom is standard HoEM stainless rod bent at right angles, threaded and Aerotight self locking nut. No pins needed.

My turn!

Already had stays - the kind that slotted into a small hole in the bonnet catch. Cut an M6 thread into the end, fitted a couple of the QR joints with a M6 locking nut, then made a couple of 'L' brackets out of some stainless I had lying around.

Just fitted them pre 'Storm Dennis' smile
