Interesting Stats about termites though!
The Termite to Car ratio might be different in Australia so it could be true on a more local basis.
Also, who would have thought that ICEs only produce between 5 to 10 times the emissions of termites globally.
I think someone should study the Termite Problem.
Maybe Greta could take it on as part of her studies.

they start here and work backwards https://assets.publishing.service.g...7_Provisional_Emissions_statistics_2.pdfits not ideal and flawed but appears to be the bench mark , the aviation industry has used this to calculate how green flight is/becoming , total rubbish and still no accurate figures even after legal action against them in 2007 which I think is still ongoing , they are a prime example of less carbon via off set , its a joke

Certainly they are leaving private industry to sort it out with the market based theory of supply and demand but this is an issue that is far more important than the battle between VHS and Betamax. I completely agree with you, but at the moment the electorates of the UK, Australia, America and others appear to be keen to elect right-wing governments who don't believe in this level of state intervention. It's that pesky democracy rearing its head again....

laughable they will back track , its been on the cards for a while No mention of diesel powered shipping , aviation fuel planes , quite a lot of catch up needs to be done yet . No doubt more taxes on air travel and anything transported on ships will be the next tax .... Electric cars are being lined up for taxation in the next ULEZ tax charges ...

Where are all the charging points coming from. High rise flats, rows of terraced houses fronting on to foot paths. Currently there are a number of providers for charging and you have to use the one you have an account with, and some charging points are specific to certain makes of car. Why didn't, or doesn't, the government standard these so as to, in effect, ease the problem of charging. You probably aren't aware of the amount of infrastructure being installed to cope with this, but that doesn't mean it's not happening. The idea is that you will pre-book your journey via an app "I need to be in Gloucester by 10:30 tomorrow" and a central server will use route-planning and optimisation to plot a route that encompasses all the requests into an efficient journey and figuring out the price you'll be charged. Pick a common route used by lots of people and your ride will be cheap as there will be lots of people using it. Want to travel at an unusual time or to a distant location? Then like a taxi you would have to bear the entire cost yourself. The idea is that we can design a self-sustaining business model that makes each minibus a profitable proposition in its own right. Sort of like a cross between a bus and a taxi with Uber-style price setting. I take it that you will be using it when you have forgotten something from B and Q that you need asap.

No, we (like many people) will be very happy to own an EV, the service is more aimed at people who don't or can't own their own car. Besides, that's what electric pushbikes are for. I use mine for pretty much any journey under 10 miles. "Just popping over to B&Q" is a great excuse to stop off at the pub for a quick pint or two on the way home.

Ian I expect people will get used to keeping their old cars going until they can switch to an EV. Modern cars have a life expectancy of a good 15 to 20 years, look at how many 02 to 05 plate cars you see running around these days. I wouldn't be at all surprised if car manufacturers have dropped most of their ICE ranges well before then anyway.

Precisely and what happens when we have a cold snap, we can't cope now !
For a start we can use the huge amount of electricity that's currently swallowed up refining petrol. It takes around 8KWh of electricity to produce and transport a gallon of petrol, which will take an ICE car around say 40 miles. A Tesla Model 3 for example will go for 30 miles on the same amount of electricity so we're already ¾ of the way there just by not producing so much petrol.
