It's a perspective thing?
When the mustang was first released in the US it was a cheap preppy's car designed to be the reward for getting through university. It was intended to be a feeder car, your first car that made you love Ford and stay with them through the years ahead. A bit of freedom on a low budget. Then it went muscle car and the Vette appeared etc. If you take EU volumes, import taxes, VAT, expectations then it starts to look a little odd here. As others have said in the US with their discounting and lower tazes the 2.3T and V8 are good value if a little cost-engineered in some places.
I enjoyed a few fruity rentals during my visits. A Hertz Mustang GT350 with an autobox was among the most enjoyable until the gearbox literally fell out of the car as I pulled off 101! I guess the rentals probably get a lot of stick. The Camaro V8 was actually a bit more impressive. It felt taughter more responsive and faster.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Love the Mustang, myself. Real old school American muscle car. Yes, they are not as refined as their European rivals, but at least that lack of refinement keeps them affordable.
In many ways, European sports cars have just got to up themselves in their quest for refinement and exclusivity. Refinement invariably leads to expensive cars and high depreciation so fewer and fewer people can enjoy high performance. Surely that's why we like Morgan's.
The Americans take a more democratic approach to sports cars. Long may the Mustang continue. Please don`t forget: We drive a Morgan! Can we demand perfection from other manufacturers?   Ha - we can't, and it's that lack of perfection I like. The most alluring women are those with some imperfection, that are not too perfect. Sorry to bring this discussion down to the subject of sexual attraction, but they do say that love of cars and love of beautiful women go together.

My 3 1/2 year old Mustang GT has been fault free apart from the puddle lights turning the projected image into a blob. Instrument lights went out once but came back before I could find a safe place to stop. MPG is better then the official figure at 23 to 24 MPG. A design fault means the passenger door mirror only just adjusts far enough for me & a shorter driver would not be able to set it properly.

I had a Mustang Convertible twice in the USA as a rental car. Both travelled some 1000 km. There are more exclusive cars, more luxurious or faster. But in any case the Mustang would be enough car for me. Simply very reasonably priced and able to make a lot of fun. The workmanship is completely ok. It is a car for living and not a life for a car.
If I should decide how I spend 100000 €, then I would much rather buy a Mustang and a 4/4 than a single car for 100000 €.

Well in 10 years time we'll all wish we had bought one of these icons from the bygone era, they are unpretentious lovely muscle cars that thankfully don't appeal at all to car s/knobs  so there is enough for the true petrolheads to own. If I didn't have my Plus 8 I would definitely be in the market for one.

I'm with ewn and Quicksilver on this.... The Americans have built some cracking cars over the years and the recent breed of Mustang/Charger/Camaro are a return to their roots after some time wandering in the bland Wilderness.... Not everyone's cup of tea (or coffee)... And different in basic philosophy from European performance cars.... But heaps of fun to drive... Think you either get it or you don't.... Life's too short to earnestly debate from either side of that particular fence as it's not amenable to logic... Drive what makes you grin!
K Just seeing a Mustang makes me smile/grin , anyone who owns one is obviously a petrolhead and wants a different v8 , thank goodness they now make them rhd !
