Tarka was built, according to the build book, on 3rd July 2013.
So this July the car will be 7. Nothing of note has gone wrong that cost more than a few hundred pounds to fix. Consumable and wear items have been less than expected.
The highest costs have been associated with "improvements and upgrades"...
Umm, didn't my learned friend have to resort to angle grinding the front suspension on poor old Tarka a while ago..? Not entirely sure whether that would fall under improvements and upgrades, or maintenance..?

By the time hydrogen is being widely piped around the country, the technology for storing a decent amount in a car should have improved. And then we might see the resurrection of the ICE!  We hope so very much !

We hope so very much ! Don’t hold your breath! I’d say that due to the emissions from burning hydrogen in a normal ICE unless it is highly modified, it’s something which will not be acceptable. Fuel cells are another matter however.

We are so over burning...
As soon as you talk about burning anything - you are one of the old guys sticking to the old times - no matter how good it might be.
We saw this with our CNG strategy. Even if we produce our cng from renewable energy ressources using existing CO2 from
a plant´s exhaust - we are not accepted to be CO2 neutral as there is CO2 at the tailpipe....

Was an interesting watch.
So much of the EV push seems to involve the US but it is in China where it seems to be being adopted in greatest numbers. I wonder if there is a big tussle going on behind the scenes between the battery folk and the big oil corporations in the US, especially with the rise in shale oil/gas over there and less reliance on the Middle East?
Over here in the U.K. we appear to be a peripheral player but never a leader in the market which is a shame. I would be interested if we had an equivalent to an Elon Musk for us to support doing a similar revolutionary job?

HB, I am pleased that you found some interest in the link, I suspect we owe it to ourselves to try to keep up to speed with progress, regardless of the direction it takes..? It seems all nations of the world have a degree of interdependency to the extent that nationalism seems almost an irrelevance given everyone depends upon the planets health for human survival..?

Interesting comments re China (HB above). Don’t forget that:
1) China has only recently had wide scale car ownership (less than 20 years) - they don’t have the emotional attachment to the IC engine that we have.
2) The geography in China is such that people either stay in their own urban conurbation or use air/rail for the very long journeys between cities.
3) If you don’t live in a city in China then you are extremely unlikely to afford a car of any kind.
