I think it depends on year and model - my '72 4/4 4 seat has the switch in the tool tray between battery and windscreen wiper motor.

My '76 it was fitted to the bulkhead (firewall), driver's side above right knee (the contacts on the other side were actually in the tool tray!).
On my '93 it is more or less central on the wood bulkhead behind the seats.

Those cheapo battery isolator switches are the work of the devil, as suggested in GoMog article and rated at only 60 amps. Consequently I opted for superior BEP versions on my boat electrics installation. ![[Linked Image]](https://aquafax.co.uk/media/productpage/8-90035.jpg) The 701 model above is rated at 275 amps continuous and much higher for cranking - click for info. Not too expensive and readily available at most marine chandelries, there are panel and flush mount versions. Switch knob is removable for security. I use the heavy duty 702 model for domestic and bow thruster batteries though, the latter remotely controlled by master switch at the other end of the boat as the thruster has been known to blow 600 amp fuse when stalled!

Mine was the poverty spec 16ft bargepole Girlie button or not, I wouldn't be without it. Not to say the pole doesn't help when aground though
