As a serious question. If MMC were to consider how many 4/4 would sell for £47000 or around a figure that would keep a wider circle of buyers into their abilities, would it be worth the investment to create a smaller version of the CX chassis? Surely it can't be that difficult to modify the platform if you leave everything the same and just make it a bit narrower?

The problem would be that they can't shrink people to fit a smaller car, and they would have to use different seats etc. I am sure the main cabin is engineered around the space needed for two moderately large human bodies.

On Tuesday, a dealer having just returned from the Plus 4 launch told me that there will not be a 4/4 successor and that for the foreseeable future there will be a three vehicle range.

The Z4 price differential between its 20i and 30i (PlusFour) is £4K.- a 10% saving.
So possibly a 4/4 with 197hp would be £59K. Probably not worth the 6.3% saving?

It depends on how the Plus Four sells, if MMC meet or even exceed their sale targets then there really wouldn't need to be a 4/4 (Four Four or Four Three etc). From a financial perspective. Tradition of a 4/4 is a different matter. Also if they concentrate on a three vehicle model range, would that not then increase profits because it would be less stocked components etc ? Plus a possibility of an improvement in quality control. Less is often more.
