Having done a search on these here there appears to be mixed opinions which predominantly revolve around corrosion and/or reaction between the aluminium wing and steel fixings. I would be fitting them purely for aesthetics as I think they would suit the look of my car but I have to admit that I would be reluctant to add a source of potential issues in years to come. One of the things that has been suggested in various posts is rather than bolting them to the wings is to use double sided car body adhesive tape - something like 3M VHB. My question is has anyone done this with any success - pro's / con's etc? ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-qJGwg4C/0/4cc5590c/X2/i-qJGwg4C-X2.jpg) I do have PPF strips on the wings in this area which was dealer applied but for some unfathomable reason doesn't follow the curve of the wing down towards the ground where its actually needed so what is there at the moment would be removed. As said elsewhere, a plus with the adhesive tape method is it would provide a barrier preventing metal on metal contact but I'm seeking the collective wisdom. Also, all the images I've seen of the 4/4 on the MMC website and elsewhere seem to suggest one strip per side presumably due to the narrow wings. Does anyone with them fitted to a 4/4 have different? If it is only one per side then at £30.00ish per side it seems like a reasonably priced modification. Many thanks.

I think the corrosion issue is overblown if you treat the screws & treads properly.

My old +8 has two strips per side held on with double sided tape with no issues over the years..

IMO, they are a bl**dy nuisance. Corrosion, trapping water and trapping polish. Never again for me.

When I rebuilt my car in 1995 I fitted my strips with aluminium pop rivets, no corrosion issues.

If you have any concern about future issues, I would not install them, the running boards look so much better without them and it’s easier to clean and polish. The trad is one of the worlds most beautiful cars, it does not require any additional bits and pieces. Keep it clean and simple.

I wonder why these are even fitted... given it is not advisable to stand on the running boards?

Visual appeal and nod to the past cars, mine has 3 on each side having the wider sills and they do prevent passengers that drag instead of lift their feet into the car from scuffing the paintwork.
I'm with John on this both my Plus 8's have had them with no signs of corrosion whatsoever.

I just use AC50 or 3 in 1 oil around them now and again. No issues.

I once decided to take the rubber inserts out of the previous Mog, on the underside of the running boards all looked excellent due to years of regular waxoil, but after the inner ends of the tiny bolts were exposed wow ! The heads were just a mush of corrosion & looked like just mild steel
I replaced all with 316 stainless & 'Dr Dave' W used my photos for his Miscellany article
The ally channel just acts like a water reservoir & for me I would not by choice, have them again
