Well I’ve gone into isolation and just praying I’ve not caught the virus! I had a heritage group meeting over the raising of lottery grants to develop a famous old boatyard here in Arnside two weeks ago. Only to be told yesterday evening that one of the county councillors I met has gone down with Coronavirus...he started the symptoms a week ago. He went down to London later in the day for some government meetings so I’m hoping he contracted it then!

But I can’t take the risk of possibly passing it on if I have it lurking so isolation for me. Not too much of a problem as I’ve plenty to keep me occupied but for how long? Yesterday Boris said seven days, before that the recommendation was two weeks and I’ve read that it should be even longer. The lack of proper reliable information is rather worrying.

Peter,
what do you think will happen once Italy allows movement. The virus is still there & without herd immunity will come back. I think the UK approach is a sensible balance based upon science.

Time will tell.

I saw a news report that people in Seattle who have insurance are being charged $500 per test. Without Insurance it is costing $1600 per test!

I don’t think the advice is confusing if you concentrate on the government advice and not the garbage from endless debates and opinions filling talk shows and news programmes and interviews with people who have an axe to grind with a Boris government and want to make a name for themselves (Rory Stewart, John Ashton, Jeremy Hunt to name a few)

Continue Hand washing properly and frequently

If you have a temperature and/or a new dry cough, isolate for 7 days

I went shopping in Tesco this morning: no masks to be seen and I think I was the only person wearing disposable gloves.
I wiped down the trolly handle and scanner thing with an alcohol based wipe, then once I'd finished I binned the gloves and used hand sanitizer on my hands.

Toilet rolls and the other stuff that people were panic buying are all available.

As Stuart has said, keep washing hands!

Peter

If the our governments plan works, we will see far fewer deaths, a better organised health service with the capacity required to treat the vulnerable elderly population who might develop pneumonia

Sir Humphrey couldn't have come up with a better plan. We don't take any serious action now and we will wait until it is really necessary so as not to alarm people.

In other words we wait until the virus becomes endemic in the population and then we isolate everyone when it is too late.

I think you’ve missed the point Peter

We are all going to get it eventually, (some will probably have natural immunity as in the case of most viruses) it’s like a cold, if we isolate for 10 weeks, we’ll just catch it after we come out of isolation. Whether a it’s a day after of 6 months after.

It’s not serious to the vast majority of people whichever model you use. Some have it now and probably don’t know they’ve got it, which is why it is spreading as a pandemic

The clever part and why the British scientists are completely ahead of the game is and this clamour for closing down everything now is not the answer in that it pushes a large spike in the serious cases that need hospitalisation to whenever it’s decided to open back up again

The way it’s been handled in the UK is that it just flattens and broadens the curve so that serious cases can be dealt with better and therefore should reduce deaths

I do however have faith in the Chief Scientist though, we are world class at this business.

John. Italy took the same course as you are now following in the UK about a month behind. Look where we are now and that is where you will be in 2 to 3 weeks. The genie is out of the bottle now and it is irresponsible not to take action. China has demonstrated that it can be done.
